In 1990, New York (USA) gave the world a rap group that was different from existing bands. With their creativity, they destroyed the stereotype that a white guy can't rap so well.
It turned out that everything is possible and even a whole group. Creating their trio of rappers, they absolutely did not think about fame. They just wanted to rap, and eventually got the status of famous rap artists.
Briefly about the members of the House of Pain band
The band's lead vocalist, movie star Everlast is a performer and songwriter. Singer of Irish origin, real name - Eric Francis Schrody, was born in New York.
The creative trend is a combination of several genres (rock, blues, rap and country).
DJ Lethal — unsurpassed DJ of the group, a Latvian by nationality (Leors Dimants), was born in Latvia.
Danny Boy - Daniel O'Connor went to the same school as Eric, they were best friends. The vocalist and songwriter also has Irish roots.
The initiator of the group, as well as the author of its name, was Everlast. Since two of the group were descendants of Irish immigrants, the Irish three-leaf clover was chosen as the group's emblem. This group lasted six years from 1990 to 1996.
How it all began?
Thanks to the exciting hit Jump Around, which entered the most popular charts around the world, the new group enjoyed huge popularity. The single became not only widely known, but also sold out in a million copies.
The group stirred up not only America, but also excited the whole of Europe. Signed to an American independent company, the band began their official music career.
The debut album of the same name received the status of a multi-platinum album, which showed a real Irishman with his own mentality and character, a true representative of the emerald island.
The bright creativity of the performers demonstrated a combination of various forms of folklore of American and Irish origin.
The group began to tour, go on tours, give numerous concerts.
House of Pain recognition
Prior to the release of the second album, the group collaborated with various bands, participating in joint concerts. There were offers that the musicians accepted while acting in various projects.
The leader of the group began acting in films. Together with his school friend and stage colleague Danny Boy, with the famous Mickey Rourke, he opened his own business.
In Los Angeles, even today, the House of Pizza restaurant receives visitors. Daniel was directly involved in the filming of the action movie.
DJ Lethal was actively engaged in producing activities, "promoting" various groups. The guys had a lot of new projects and ideas.
The second album, released by the group in 1994, was recognized by music critics as the best of the previous edition. As a result, the album reaches amazing heights, reaching gold status.
The musicians of the group have done an incredible amount for the development of this direction.
In the minds of many Irish people, the songs of the House of Pain group have become a real symbol of freedom, as well as the struggle against the existing political system. This group is not only a carrier of amazing music, but also a lifestyle.
The collapse of the House of Payne, but not of creative personalities
Two years after the release of the gold album, House of Pain released their third album, which, unfortunately, became the band's last creative project.
The team gradually disintegrated. This was facilitated by facts such as Daniel's drug use, Eric's desire to resume his solo career.
The DJ joined a fledgling band that was the opening act for House of Pain on their farewell tour.
The guys went their own way. Danny Boy began to seriously restore his health, began intensive treatment for alcohol and drug addiction.
To some extent, and for a while, he succeeded. He even organized his own project, in which he was going to use the hardcore punk musical genre.
To our great regret, the guy was not released from drugs, and this meant the end of the story. DJ Lethal was part of a new band and hard at work on a new project.
Eric collaborated with various teams, acted in films a little, even managed to start a family. At some point, the singer's health deteriorated, he underwent heart surgery. The doctors brought him back to life.
Decades later
It has been a long 14 years since the collapse of the amazing team, which his fans never cease to remember and dream of meeting him on stage again.
In 2008, the musicians reunited. In addition to the magnificent trinity, other performers also took part in the group.
But after the release of the debut album, Eric left due to the busy schedule of solo concerts and participation in the group. In honor of the anniversary of the first album (25 years), House of Pain organized a triumphant tour around the world.
Despite the fact that the repertoire consists mainly of well-known tracks, concerts are held in crowded halls. In Russia, fans first heard the first rap group in full force.
