The history of the creation and composition of the Incubus group

The team was created in the provincial California town of Calabasas in 1992. At the origins of the group are:

  • Brandon Boyd (vocals, percussion);
  • Mike Einzeiger (guitar);
  • Alex Katunich, who later performed under the pseudonym "Dirk Lance" (bass guitar);
  • José Pasillas (percussion instruments).

The musicians were very fond of rock, in addition, they were classmates. The guys started their way with funk rock. They took a reference to the work of the legendary group Red Hot Chili Peppers.

The first compositions of the new team sounded "damp". But slowly the sound of the band was transformed and became better. For this, we should thank the fact that the musicians added elements of rapcore and post-grunge to the sound of the tracks.

Rapcore is a genre of alternative rock music characterized by the use of rap as vocals. It combines elements of punk rock, hardcore punk and hip hop.

Signing with Immortal Records

After the formation of the line-up and numerous rehearsals, the musicians began to tour extensively in southern California. In the mid-1990s, a new member joined the team. We are talking about DJ Life (Gavin Coppello). With a new member, the band recorded their debut album, Fungus Amongus.

After the presentation of the record, the musicians were looked at with a completely different (evaluating) look. The guys from the Incubus group at that time were already famous in their native California. But now influential producers and music critics have paid attention to them.

The musicians received a contract from Immortal Records, a subsidiary of Epic Records. At the recording studio, the guys recorded their first professional mini-album Enjoy Incubus, which was based on reworked demos.

A full-length disc appeared on the music shelves only the following year. In support of the collection, the guys went on a long tour of the United States, where they performed as "heating" for such bands as Korn, Primus, 311, Sublime and Unwritten Law.

The popularity of the American band increased after they became participants in the Ozzfest festival. Around the same time period, the musicians appeared on the Family Values Tour, which was organized by Korn.

By this time, the group had undergone major changes. The team left Life, and DJ Kilmore took his place. Not all fans were ready for this. It took Kilmore a long time to become "their own".

Release of the album Make Yourself

After the tour, the musicians announced to their fans that they were working on a new record. The result of the work was the presentation of the album Make Yourself. According to the old tradition, after the release of the collection, the guys got poisoned on tour. This time they were accompanied by System of a Down, Snot and Limp Bizkit.

The new album was very warmly received by fans and music critics. Make Yourself hit the bottom of the top 50. Despite this, the record sold steadily, which allowed it to become doubly platinum.

The Stellar composition from the presented collection was regularly played on radio and television. But the real hit of the album was the track Drive. He managed to break into the top 10 best songs of the country.

In the early 2000s, Incubus again took part in Ozzfest and later accompanied Moby on his Area: One tour. Around the same period of time, the band's discography was replenished with the album When Incubus Attacks, Vol. 1.

Re-release of Fungus Amongus

In the same year, the musicians re-released their debut album Fungus Amongus. The new studio work was called Morning View. The record went on sale in 2001. The album debuted on the US charts at number 2. Thus, we can say that the American group has not lost its former popularity.

The songs Wish You Were Here, Nice to Know You, and Warning were on the radio for days on end. And the musicians themselves decided that it was time for them to go on tour, but already as headliners.

In 2003, it became known that Dirk Lance left the group. A few days later, Dirk's place was taken by Eisinger's longtime friend, former member of The Roots, Ben Kenny.

The musicians shared with fans information that they are preparing the fifth studio album. Soon they presented a new record. We are talking about the collection A Crow Left of the Murder.

Many fans were sure that the new album without Dirk's participation would be an absolute "failure". Despite the predictions of "fans", the fifth album started at number 2 in the US charts. The title track from the album Megalomaniac peaked at number 55 on the US Billboard charts.

In 2004, the band released the DVD Live At Red Rocks, in which the musicians placed the best hits. As well as the materials of the new collection. The second song Talk Shows On Mute conquered the demanding English fans. The song entered the top 20 best tracks.

A year later, the Incubus group wrote several soundtracks for the movie Stealth. Song titles: Make a Move, Admiration, Neither of Us Can See. The musicians are in the spotlight.

This was followed by the release of the sixth studio album Light Grenades (2006), which included 13 tracks. They were highly acclaimed by fans and music critics.

The team disappeared for three years. The musicians pleased fans of heavy music with live performances, but the discography was empty. The band released their seventh album in 2009. We are talking about the collection Monuments and Melodies.
