The founder of the group is the popular American DJ Thomas Pentz, who is better known under the pseudonym Diplo.

Already in his school years, he began to be interested in music, and after graduating, he decided to engage in professional activities.

In addition to independent work, Thomas is also a talented producer.

In 2008, while watching a MIA (UK female rapper) concert, Thomas met DJ Switch, with whom he had similar views on the development of music.

Subsequently, this acquaintance grew into the creation of several tracks. They formed the basis for the release of the first album Guns Don't Kill People… Lazers Do.

After that, the duet was transformed into a trio, Walshy Fire became a member of the team. His activity was to maintain the image of the group. In addition, he became a frontman and MC.

The move drastically reduced the importance of Switch's role, causing him to leave Major Lazer. Three years later, he was replaced by DJ Jillionaire, who was responsible for the duties of his predecessor.

Changes in the composition of the team have significantly changed the style of the published compositions. Recognizable features appeared, thanks to which the Major Lazer group gained its popularity.

The features were in the Caribbean notes and the combination of dance music with hip-hop.

In 2019, at the American Governors Ball festival, held in one of the largest cities in the world, the band members announced another reshuffle in the group.

The result of their joint activities was reflected in his next album Free the Universe. Already in 2012, the leader of the group announced the conclusion of an agreement with a small Canadian studio.

It was she who organized the release of the second album Apocalypse Soon. It was also announced the places where Major Lazer plans to play concerts as part of the planned tour.

Joint hit Major Lazer with singer Amber

A year before the release of the Free the Universe album, the band, together with the famous American singer Amber, released the song Get Free, which could be placed absolutely free.

Subsequently, it was she who became the main theme for the film "Baywatch". This allowed the group to significantly increase its popularity.

Thanks to this, the new album Peace Is the Mission received significant support from the public.

Within a week, Lean On was at the top of the dance charts, and for a long time it was played in clubs around the world.

This album contains songs that Major Lazer has recorded with other artists: Night Riders (with Travi$ Scott, 2 Chainz, Pusha T & Mad Cobra), Too Original with Elliphant and Jovi Rockwell, and Be Together, which performed with the Wild Belle band.

The re-release of the same album, Peace Is the Mission, which included several new compositions: Light It Up, Lost, helped reinforce this success.

In 2017, after a number of performances, as well as participation in concerts of other artists, the Major Lazer group took part in the project.

As part of the work in it, they created a beat that everyone could use for free. A similar opportunity was taken by the rapper Scryptonite, who published the song "Where is your love."

In the middle of summer 2016, another Cold Water single featuring MØ and Justin Bieber appeared on the Internet. It was an incredible success, topping the world famous charts.

Fans were waiting for the continuation, but new songs appeared only a few months later.

And already at the end of the year, Major Lazer presented the public with a new album, Music Is the Weapon, which was later renamed Lazerizm.

In mid-2019, the band released a music video for their single, Make It Hot. Popular Brazilian singer Anitta took part in it. Along with this, the leader of the group Diplo said that the next record will be the last work of the Major Lazer group.
