My Darkest Days is a popular rock band from Toronto, Canada. In 2005, the team was created by the Walst brothers: Brad and Matt. Translated into Russian, the name of the group sounds: "My darkest days."
Brad was previously a member of Three Days Grace (bassist). Despite the fact that Matt could work for his older brother, he dreamed of his own group.
This dream was realized with such acquaintances as drummer Doug Oliver, bassist Brendan McMillan and lead guitarist Paulo Neta.
In this line-up, the team lasted until 2009, when one of his friends brought Brad to Sal Costa, a musician from Toronto, who began work in the My Darkest Days group, replacing Paulo, who moved to the Thornley group.
Matt Walst's childhood dream
As a 12-year-old teenager, Matt once went into his older brother's room and saw a black electric guitar there. Matt really wanted to play at least something on it, and from that moment, according to the musician, it all started.
The Walst family had a basement in the house, where Matt played music with his friend, drummer Buddy.
Rock was the direction that young people were interested in, and in which they dreamed of "advancing." Soon the guys began serious activities, the place of which was a small van.
In winter, the guys froze, and in the summer they suffered from the invasion of bees. Matt was so worried about all these problems that he, by his own admission, constantly trembled his lips.
It was then that Matt met Gavin Brown and work began on Walst's own songs. This was very inspiring for the guy, as well as dating with his girlfriend, who appeared with him then.
But his goal was to move to a big city where he could record his songs and perform on stage.
How it all began?
He realized his dream together with his friend Doug Oliver, who sold his house in order to move to the city and rent a room for himself and Matt, where there were only two beds. Such inconvenience was a serious test, but friends survived.
They were joined by another childhood friend, Brandon McMillan. Together they studied music and learned to write songs, and this was the first serious step towards success and popularity.
The band's first win was in 2008 in Ontario, where they played their hit Every Lia. The competition was hugely popular in Ontario, so they immediately received dividends in the form of time in the recording studio.
The guys even had to go hungry, so they played wherever they could and sold their demo discs. And one not the most beautiful day they were asked to vacate the rented housing, and Matt calls this day terrible, because the guys could become homeless.
They definitely needed someone who would introduce them to the world of show business. And at this critical moment, Chad Kroeger himself (Nickelback band) called Matt.
Doors for My Darkest Days to the world of great music
After reviewing the songs, Chad was so delighted that he immediately invited the musicians to perform under his label. The contract was signed, and after that the song Porn Star Dancing was released, which is considered the first single of the group.
Kruger and his good friend Zakk Wylde (guitarist and vocalist) wanted to participate in the recording of this song.
At first, the guys played before the performances of star groups, and in June 2010 they went on tour. And before that, the musicians decided on the name of their group, and it became known as My Darkest Days.
According to Matt, they were driving around the USA in a small van, enduring terrible inconvenience, where there was not even air conditioning. One day, the musicians almost died - the van overturned.
But still, playing on the same stage with such stars was unrealistically cool for a young band! Later, a video clip was filmed, the work was carried out in the premises of a nightclub in Las Vegas.
The single took the fourth position in the ranking of the most requested and most downloaded rock hits in Canada. A little later, a remix of this song was recorded, the rapper from the USA Ludacris participated in the creation.
On September 21, 2011, the debut presentation of the album My Darkest Days took place, which was named the same as the song Porn Star Dancing. The musicians announced this event on their Facebook page.
The recording of one of the songs included in the album took place with the participation of Orianthi (a celebrity from Australia), who became famous thanks to her work with such stellar musicians as Steve Vai, Carlos Santana and Michael Jackson.
In 2013, the band ceased to exist, and in 2014 Matt joined the group Three Days Grace as a vocalist.
The main achievements of the legendary musicians
The video clip of Porn Star Dancing took the 60th position in the ranking of the most viewed videos of all time on iTunes.
In 2010, the guys became the best, according to several music magazines Billboard and FMQB, taking a leading position with their songs.
The debut single from Porn Star Dancing is gold. He received such recognition in Canada.
The single The World Belongs to Me sounds as a soundtrack in the movie "Saw 3D".
2012 was very successful - the presentation of the album Sick and Twisted Affair took place, which became another full-length album of the band.
