The birth of the Nautilus Pompilius group

The origin of the group took place in 1978, when students worked hours while collecting root crops in the village of Maminskoye, Sverdlovsk region. First, Vyacheslav Butusov and Dmitry Umetsky met there. During their acquaintance, they had similar musical interests, so they decided to create their own rock band.

Soon another student joined them - Igor Goncharov. At first, they could not realize their plans due to the fact that Butusov was in another group. They managed to get together all together only in the second year of study.

The last straw that prompted the guys to create their own group was a rock festival in 1981. The future composition of the group looked at the game of the already formed rock group "Trek", the composition of which everyone knew personally. Then the guys realized that they were able to create music that would sound no worse than their friends.

Carier start

The group began its full-fledged existence in November 1982. The main line-up included guitarist Andrey Sadnov. Then a demo album of the group was created, which was named after the folk tale "Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves". After the release of the first creations, the drummer left NAU (as the group was called for short). He was replaced by another master of percussion instruments - Alexander Zarubin.

In the summer of 1983, the group's first official album, Moving, was released. The basis for the lion's share of the compositions from this album were the Hungarian poems of Adi and Szabo. Butusov found the collections during a trip to Chelyabinsk.

Creativity of the group Nautilus Pompilius

In subsequent years, the musicians experimented with genres, moving away from the first creations in the style of heavy rock. This is especially noticeable in the album "Invisible", which was released in 1985. The following year, the album "Separation" was released, thanks to which the group was very popular. In comparison with the amateur creativity released earlier, the guys went to the big leagues. They began to be compared with such well-known groups as "Kino", "Alisa".

Along with worldwide recognition and fame, the prospect of gaining wealth also appeared. 1988 can be safely considered the peak of the band's popularity. The team was seized by a thirst for money, conflicts and quarrels began to arise. The composition was constantly changing, but the group continued to exist until the departure of Umetsky. Butusov could not stand the atmosphere that prevailed in the team and disbanded the group.

The following year, old friends started talking again. Butusov and Umetsky recorded another album, The Man Without a Name. After recording the album, the guys remembered old grievances and went in different directions. Due to quarrels and lack of understanding, the album went on sale only in December 1995.

Big changes in the group

1990 was a year of change for Nautilus Pompilius. The saxophone playing was replaced by the guitar. The style and themes have changed significantly. In the texts you can see the philosophical, sometimes religious meaning. The composition "Walks on the Water" was very popular. It deals with a moment distorted in the text from the life of the Apostle Andrew and Jesus.

Three years later, the team again had quarrels and misunderstandings. Yegor Belkin, Alexander Belyaev left the group "NAU", who played the guitar. In 1994, the co-founder of the Agatha Christie group, Vadim Samoilov, contributed to the release of the Titanic album. According to experts, thanks to the album, the group gained the highest profit of all time.

Later the album "Wings" was released. Creating a record was difficult for the musicians. She gained popularity only after the release of the famous film "Brother". He forever went down in history in parallel with the group Nautilus Pompilius. The entire sound design of the film consisted of the band's songs. Prior to this, he received negative reviews from the media, including well-known music critics.

The audience fell in love with a significant number of the group's songs forever. The song "Tutankhamun", which in the 1990s could be heard almost everywhere. At first, its performance was planned in the style of a ballad, but later Butusov changed his mind.

Respect and love for the Nautilus Pompilius group have remained to this day. Despite the criticism, the hard way and bad reviews from some critics, the band liked the audience because of the lack of fear of experimenting, which is much better than falling silently after one hit created and a million analogues.

The list of the last compositions of the group included the albums "Apple China" and "Atlantis". The first album was recorded by Butusov in England together with English-speaking musicians. Some experts believe that all this was due to the fact that it was cheaper to hire an English musician.

The collection of songs "Atlantis" includes songs that were not published during the existence of the group (from 1993 to 1997).

After the release of the album, the group was finally disbanded. The last gift for their "fans" was the participation of the old team at various music festivals.
