The Pentatonix Group: The Beginning

The founder and vocalist of the band is Scott Hoing, who was born in 1991 in Arlington (Texas).

Once Richard Hoing, the father of the future star of America, noted the incredible vocal abilities of his son and realized that this ability needs to be developed.

He started creating a channel on the YouTube Internet platform in order to upload videos dedicated to Scott.

During his school years, Hoing Jr. actively participated in various events and theatrical productions. In 2007, participating in one of the school talent competitions, he won first place.

It was then that the teachers, as well as Scott himself, realized that in the future he would become popular and there would be performances on big stages.

After graduating from high school, Hoing entered the University of California. His main goal was to get a bachelor's degree in pop music. He began to study singing and attend the choir.

On one of the seemingly ordinary student days, friends, listening to the local radio, learned about a music competition, and decided to take part in it, inviting two of their school friends Mitch Grassi and Christy Maldonado.

The guys, without hesitation, dropped out of college and came to the University of California. Scott, Mitch and Christy submitted their own version of Lady Gaga's song "Telephone" to the contest.

Despite the fact that the cover version did not win the competition, the trio became famous at the university.

Then the guys learned about the competition The Sing-Off, although at least five singers were required to participate in it.

It was then that two more people were invited to the group - Avriel Kaplan and Kevin Olusol. It was at this moment, in fact, that the a cappella group Pentatonix was formed.

The arrival of popularity to the Pentatonix group

In the audition at The Sing-Off, the band, which was assembled quite recently, unexpectedly took first place.

The group received quite a good amount of money (200 thousand dollars) and the opportunity to record on the independent label of the Sony Music music studio, which creates soundtracks for films.

In the winter of 2012, the team decided to enter into an agreement with the recording studio Madison Gate Records, after which the PTX group was very popular.

  1. The first single PTX Volume 1 was recorded together with the label's producer. For six months, the team has been reworking classical and pop songs. After finishing the work, the guys posted the created compositions on YouTube. Over time, interest in a cappella group among users of the global network began to increase. The official release of the first small album is dated June 26, 2012. Already within the first week after its release, 20 thousand copies were sold. In addition, PTX's EP, Volume 1, peaked at number 14 on the Billboard 200 for a period of time.
  2. In the fall, the Pentatonix group went on their first tour of the United States of America and performed in 30 cities across the country. Due to the success of the mini-album, the band decided to record their first full-length album, which was released in November of that year. A day later, the first video clip for the song Carol of the Bells appeared on the Internet. The PTX band actively participated in various pre-Christmas music festivals, and also performed at the parade in Hollywood.
  3. At the very beginning of 2013, the team went on their second tour of the country and traveled around the United States until May 11. In addition to playing music venues in various American cities, Pentatonix has been actively writing material in order to release their second album, PTX Volume 2, which they released on November 5, 2013. Daft Punk's music video got 10 million views on YouTube in the first week alone.
  4. The second full-length album for Christmas, That's Christmas to Me, was released at the end of October 2014. During the Christmas holidays, the album became one of the best-selling among all artists and genres.
  5. From February 25 to March 29, 2015, Pentatonix toured North America. Starting in April, the PTX group went on a European tour, after which they began to perform in Asia. She sang her compositions and cover versions in Japan, South Korea.
