In 2012, he broke the Guinness World Record for the fastest rehearsal of piano keys in 1 minute with 765 strokes. Bence is currently touring and working on a new album.

What inspired Peter Benz to break the Guinness World Record?

Peter was about 2 or 3 years old when his parents noticed that the boy had a talent for playing the piano.

During training, little Bence played so fast that his teacher always told him to slow down and play slower!

“I just wanted to play fast. When I was in high school, my teachers told me about the Guinness World Record and encouraged me to try to break it. At first I laughed, but so many people told me to do it and I did. Actually I played more. I did 951 times"

The musician said in an interview.

Peter Bence: film scoring

When the young pianist was about 9 or 10 years old after studying and practicing classical music, the boy was inspired by the work of John Williams (an American composer and conductor, one of the most successful composers in the film industry).

He was especially fascinated by the music for the movie "Star Wars". By the way, this film is one of Bence's favorite films.

John Williams was the one who expanded Peter's musical taste. So the pianist decided that he wanted to learn how to compose music for the film industry.

And thanks to these circumstances, the musician decided to go to study at Berkeley (College of Music) to study film dubbing.

Composer activity of Peter Bence

Peter Bence is not only a musician, but also the author of most of the works he performs. How the creative process goes, he shared in an interview with Music Time:

“When inspiration strikes, I finish 90% of my essay in 10 minutes. The last 10% of the song takes forever; weeks to complete and turn the composition into something more perfect.

When I have composer block, I don't listen to music for days. Most often, I get new ideas in silence and when I am silent. ”

Inspiration and hobby

“A talented person is talented in everything!”. Hobby of Peter Benze is cooking. One of his favorite hobbies is watching TV shows with chefs like Gordon Ramsay or Jamie Oliver.

The pianist believes that there is an invisible connection between making music and cooking.

“When you make a sauce, you should put in some cream or cheese to blend the flavors. And when I mix the music, it's like food, it's pretty crumbly, the bass is there, but there's nothing in the middle to tie it all together. You need to design the piece differently to get the full experience. The genres of music and styles of cooking are also very similar.”

Peter said in his interview.

What instruments does Bence play?

One of the instruments that Peter has worked with is a Bösendorfer Grand Imperial concert grand piano, its price is about $150.

According to the musician, there are many good pianos, and his choice depends on what kind of sound you need to get during the performance.

“Some classical compositions sound good on the Bösendorfer, but for my style I like a sharper, harder sound, and Yamaha and Steinway grand pianos are very good for this,” says the pianist.

Travels and memories of a musician

“Once, when I was in Boston, I went to a John Williams concert. He conducted the Boston Symphony Orchestra, which performed the most famous compositions from his films. And my piano teacher, it turned out, played with this orchestra. It was quite unexpected because he didn't tell me that he was playing with an outstanding composer and conductor. I sat in the front row and after the concert wrote to him: “My God, I saw you on stage!”. And he says: "Come backstage and meet John Williams!" and I was confused with surprise and delight: "My God." That's how I met the legendary John Williams."

Advice and motivation from Peter Bence

In one of the interviews, the pianist was asked about motivation, and what advice he would give to other musicians:

“I'm not perfect. And, of course, I had my difficulties. Many times when I was still in school and doing classical music, I was lazy and didn't want to play. I think learning to play an instrument is about passion, finding your favorite music and learning from it, whether it's Disney songs or Beyoncé. That's where the obsession with the game comes from. This is different from playing pieces that you don't care about. This magic must wake up."
