Pretenders is a successful symbiosis of English and American rock musicians. The team was formed back in 1978. At first, it included such musicians as: James Haniman-Scott, Piti Farndon, Chrissy Heind and Martin Chambers.
The first drastic line-up change came when Piti and James died due to a drug overdose. It was then that the composition of the musical group began to change constantly, which influenced the group's music and concert activity.
The group officially exists to this day. In 2016, another album was released. Then a large-scale concert tour was organized in several countries, where the group gathered its audience.
Formation of the Pretenders group
The musical group was created in mid-1978. Almost immediately, the group took up active concert activities. Unfortunately, the first composition of the group did not arouse approval among the listeners. The musicians were criticized a lot, after which they were forced to radically revise the composition of the group and the direction of music.
Apparently, the adjustments were not in vain. And the next re-released composition Kid received its well-deserved place in many charts. Then the first active fans began to appear in the group, who supported the musicians, despite their difficult creative path.
Already in January of the same year, the musicians presented their debut album Pretenders. The album became popular all over the world. It was after the publication of this collection that the group quickly rose to the top of fame. And for a long time it remained popular, delighting its fans with new albums and compositions.
Subsequent recordings by the Pretenders group
Precisely due to the fact that the group secured a good start to their career, subsequent creative activity was quite smooth. The group was able to afford to change the label, which was the reason for the serious development of the musical group, despite all the difficulties and changes.
Already in 1981, the musical group released an album consisting of five tracks. The record instantly gained popularity with the public. The second album was released a few months after the first record.
The musicians did not think about the name for a long time, the second album was named exactly as the first disc Pretenders II was called. The same album included all the songs and singles that were released independently, that is, separately from the album.
Unfortunately, soon two musicians of the group were found to have a strong drug addiction, which affected the work of the musical group.
Regular conflicts began in the group due to the disorganization of dependent comrades. Recordings were regularly disrupted, which affected not only creativity, but also the internal relations of the musicians.
Very soon, two addicted musicians died - they died due to a drug overdose. The team temporarily broke up. But already in 1983, the musicians with a new line-up began their activities again. Thanks to this, the number of fans of the group's work has increased several times.
Change in the composition of the Pretenders team
After the death of two members of the band, the remaining musicians were forced to make a decision about replacements in the band. So, the group included Billy Bramner and Tony Butler. In this composition, the musicians worked productively. Then a single was released, which gained immense popularity in the United States of America.
After that, there were several more substitutions in the group. Already a new composition of musicians began an active studio and concert activity. The debut composition of the group in this composition turned out to be very successful. After some time, it was included in the list of the top 20 best American songs, which was considered very prestigious and honorable.
Musical activity with unstable line-up
Immediately after this, the renewed lineup of musicians released their third album, Learning to Crawl, which received a lot of positive feedback from fans, even from critics. In 1985, the musicians tried to work on another project - a large collection of songs. But the work was too stressful.
Due to disagreements between the men, the main line-up of the group disbanded. To record most of the compositions had to hire session musicians not associated with the group.
The band went on a major tour of the US and UK. But such measures did not help improve relations in the team. Already in 1987, the group broke up again, and it was not seen for a long time.
Pretenders group today
The 2000s were not easy for the newly assembled band. There was no inspiration, changes in the surrounding world only oppressed. But the musicians understood that in order to maintain the status and interest of the public, it was necessary to actively engage in creativity.
At this time, the musicians of the group recorded several songs at once, and later participated in a number of cult events. Already in 2005, the musicians again achieved certain heights. The group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, which was a very honorable award.
The tour of the musicians lasted for three years, and during this time there was no studio work. In 2008, the musicians again released an album based on live recordings, which delighted fans. Interestingly, after that the group broke up again and fell silent for several years.
The long-awaited return for the fans of the team in the updated line-up took place already in 2016. Thanks to the release of the debut album Alone, the musical group was once again at the pinnacle of fame. Today the group exists, creating new compositions, the musicians give concerts together with other performers. But there are no new songs yet.
