Pussy Riot - challenge, provocation, scandals. The Russian punk rock band gained popularity in 2011. The creative activity of the group is based on holding unauthorized actions in places where any such movements are prohibited.
The balaclava on the head is a feature of the soloists of the group. The name Pussy Riot is deciphered in different ways: from an indecent set of words to a "rebellion of cats."
The composition and history of Pussy Riot
The project never meant a permanent composition. One thing is clear for sure - the group consists exclusively of girls of creative professions - artists, journalists, actresses, volunteers, poetesses.
The real names of most of the soloists are classified. Despite this, the girls get in touch with the media using creative pseudonyms: “Balaklava”, “Cat”, “Manko”, “Serafima”, “Schumacher”, “Hat”, etc.
The soloists of the group say that sometimes there is an exchange of creative pseudonyms within the group. From time to time the team expands.
The singers say that those representatives of the weaker sex who share their opinion can join their group.
After the group Pussy Riot performed with the action “Mother of God, drive Putin away!”, The names of the three soloists of the group became known - Nadezhda Tolokonnikova, Ekaterina Samutsevich and Maria Alyokhina.
The creative path and music of the Pussy Riot band
The soloists of the Russian punk rock group consider themselves to be representatives of the "third wave of feminism". In the songs of girls you can hear a variety of topics.
But mostly the soloists touch on the topic of equality, the resignation of the current president of the Russian Federation and fight for the rights of women.
The soloists of the group come up with words and music on their own. Each new composition is accompanied by an action, which is filmed on video.
The singers began their musical start with the track “Free the paving stones”. The composition was written immediately before the elections to the State Duma in 2011. The soloists of the group performed the song in public transport.
In 2012, the track “Riot in Russia - Putin zass * l” was presented to the court of music lovers and already formed fans on the Execution Ground of Red Square.
To draw attention to themselves, the girls accompanied the performance with colored smoke bombs. The performance took place on Red Square. 2 out of 8 members of the group were fined.
After the scandalous punk prayer, the band's soloists released several more tracks.
During the announcement of the verdict from the balcony of the house located opposite the Khamovniki Court, one of the singers of the group in support of Samutsevich, Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina presented the song "Putin lights the fires of the revolution."
It is noteworthy that the composition was published in The Guardian newspaper.
A few years later, the soloists of the Pussy Riot group held another action on the territory of sunny Sochi during the Olympics. The mentioned action was called "Putin will teach you to love your homeland."
The IOC called the girls' action "shameful, stupid and inappropriate" and reminded that the Olympic Games are not the best place for political showdowns.
In 2016, the band presented the fans with a new composition "The Seagull". In the same year, the singers also presented a video clip for the song.
The clip was dedicated to the "Russian state mafia" - Tolokonnikova portrays the Prosecutor General of the Russian Federation Yury Yakovlevich Chaika.
Pussy Riot Scandals
Scandals are an integral part of the life of a Russian punk band. Even before the creation of the group, one of the future leaders of Pussy Riot took part in the performance of the Voina art group.
The action took place in the museum. The event consisted of having sex in a public place. The action was filmed on camera.
Tolokonnikova and her husband Verzilov were students at that time. They hit the camera lens. The most shocking thing was that Tolokonnikova was 9 months pregnant at the time of the action, and a few days later she gave birth to her daughter Gera.
The sex action was timed to coincide with the March presidential elections in Russia. With this action, the young guys wanted to show that these elections are fake.
Vladimir Putin left behind Dmitry Medvedev, no matter how the citizens of the Russian Federation vote, he will be in power.
In 2010, one of the soloists of the Pussy Riot group held an action in Peter's supermarket, the main "acting" character of which was a frozen chicken.
In front of the buyers, the singer placed the chicken in her underwear, and already on the street, she simulated childbirth. But the main scandal of the team members was after the action “Mother of God, drive Putin away!”.
In early 2012, the soloists of the Pussy Riot filmed several short episodes - the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and the Epiphany Cathedral in Yelokhovo became the venues for filming the video.
Based on the recordings, the girls made a video clip, which served as material for a criminal case against the members of the team.
Later, the leaders of the Pussy Riot group were recognized as involved in extremism and sentenced to imprisonment. Tolokonnikova and Alyokhina spent about one year behind bars. The girls themselves do not admit guilt and do not regret what they have done.
Pussy Riot now
In 2013, Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova left the places of deprivation of liberty. At a press conference, they announced that they did not belong to the Pussy Riot team.
Once at large, the girls created the movement for the protection of prisoners "Zone of Law". It soon became clear that Alyokhina and Tolokonnikova were no longer working together.
In 2018, Pussy Riot held a solo concert in Brooklyn. In addition, the band took part in the three-day music festival Boston Calling.
In 2019, the group released a video clip about an environmental problem in the world. In addition, the team held a number of concerts for foreign music lovers.
In 2020, the team will be on tour. The nearest concerts will be held in Brooklyn, Philadelphia, Atlanta and Washington.
