Robin's life and career

Alan Thicke married actress Gloria Loring, known for starring in programs such as Days of Our Lives, in 1970. They had two sons, Brennan Thicke and Robin Thicke. Stepbrother Carter Thicke will become another member of the family years after Alan Thicke's divorce and remarriage.

Robin grew up in a family filled with music and with a father who was a famous singer as well as the co-writer of several theme songs for TV shows and a major actor on the big and small screens (examples are 'Growing Pains' and 'How I Met Your Mother').

Young Robin Thicke learned to play the piano at the age of twelve. And already at the age of fourteen, he found that he could play almost everything he heard on the radio, feeling the urge to keep moving on.

Before becoming a singer-songwriter performing his own material, Robin Thicke wrote songs for the soul and pop bands 3T (with "Sexual Attention" in 1995 with Damon Thomas), Brownstone ("Around You" in 1997 ) and Color Me Badd (e.g. "Sexual potential" 1996).

He also collaborated with acclaimed duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis on several songs for Jordan Knight's 1999 self-titled album. Thicke got a great omen when Knight's album was certified Gold and received huge fan acclaim.

Robin was born March 10, 1977 in Los Angeles. He is the son of American actress-singer Gloria Loring and father, Alan Thicke, a Canadian actor best known for his role in the television sitcom Growing Pains. They later divorced when he was 7 years old. Thicke has an older brother, Brennan, and a young half-brother named Carter.

As a child, his parents were very supportive of his musical approach. His father helped him compose his first songs, but did not pay him for the professional production of the demo. The demo was eventually paid for by jazz vocalist Al Jarro, the uncle of one of his band members.

The demo fell into the hands of renowned RnB artist Brian McKnight, who invited him into the studio to work with him. It was his association with Mcknight, whom he calls his first mentor, that helped him make his first record with Interscope Records at the age of 16. Initially introduced as a singer and artist, he later made a name for himself in the industry as a songwriter and producer for other artists before releasing his own records.
