Saygrace's early years

Grace was born in April 1997 in Sunnybank, a suburb of Brisbane, on the Pacific coast of Australia. In her hometown, she entered the Catholic school of All Saints, later transferred to the school of Our Lady of Lourdes. The love for music manifested itself in the girl from early childhood. According to her own recollections, while still in elementary school, Sewell listened to the compositions of Smokey Robinson, Amy Winehouse, J. Joplin, Shirley Bassey.

The Grace family had strong musical roots. Her grandparents were part of the Gibb brothers' Vee Gees trio in the 1970s. The girl's parents were also professionally engaged in music, which could not but affect the choice of the life path of their children. Grace's older brother, Conrad, is also a professional singer. He gained fame thanks to his participation in the recording of the hit of the Norwegian DJ Kygo, released in 2014. This track set a record in 2015, with 1 billion streams on the Spotify streaming service.

The first success of Conrad Sewell was followed by the solo single Start Again. This hit reached number 1 on the Australian ARIA Charts 2015. It entered this chart at the same time as Grace, who made her debut as a singer. Conrad and Grace Sewell became the first siblings in Australia to reach the top of the national charts as individual artists.

The beginning of a musical career

Grace's solo musical career began in 2015, when she recorded a cover version of a song by British singer Jessie J for Dropout Live UK. They appreciated the vocal potential of the young Australian and invited her to work in America. Grace Sewell received her first recording contract with RCA-Record. The girl left her native Brisbane and went to work overseas, in the American Atlanta.

Here the singer recorded her first and most famous hit You Don't Own Me. The record was produced by Queens Jones. The single was recorded together with a rap artist G-Eazy. Almost immediately, he made a splash in the English-speaking music world. And then on a global scale.

Song debut

In Grace's native Australia, the song almost instantly took the 1st position of the national ARIA chart, receiving the title of "platinum" hit. If at the beginning of May the single occupied the 14th position, then by the end of the month it headed the hit parade. He also firmly established himself at the top of the Shazam (Australia) and iTunes (New Zealand) charts. This composition during 2015 occupied a leading position in terms of the number of plays on Spotify and other streaming services. The song also reached the top 10 on the North American chart for 2015.

This song was originally conceived as a tribute to the memory of the American singer Lesley Gore, who passed away a few months before. As a result, You Don't Own Me became for Grace a "pass" to the world of great music, a real "breakthrough" to the heights of the world musical Olympus. Thus, the first work in collaboration with the RCA Records label met all the expectations of both the producer and the singer.

In July 2015, Grace was named Elvis Duran's Singer of the Month and featured on his NBC show. Here, for the first time, she performed her first world hit You Don't Own Me live on the show. It was broadcast in the United States. The song, which enjoyed wide popularity around the world, was used for the trailer for the movie Suicide Squad.
