Carefree childhood Sheryl Crow

Sheryl Crow was born in 1962 into a large family of a lawyer and pianist, in which she was the third child. In addition to two sisters, over time, a brother also appeared. They lived in Kentucky, Missouri. Despite the seriousness of the profession, the dad of the future star was fond of jazz and played the trumpet perfectly.

So from an early age, all children were involved in music. Sheryl, under the guidance of her mother, a teacher, mastered the piano. At the age of 13, she was already a soloist in the school choir. At 14, she tried to compose a song for the first time.

In addition to music, the girl was also fond of active sports. Led the school dance group to support sports competitions. She often acted as a drum majorette (she was thrown up during the playing of a marching band, while she performed gymnastic tricks).

Indefatigable activity Sheryl continued to show at Columbia University. I went there to study music composition and performance. The blonde not only sang in the Cashmere group, but also widely engaged in social activities.

First creative steps Sheryl Crow

After completing her bachelor's degree, Sheryl Crow took a job as a music teacher at an elementary school in Fenton. On weekdays she worked with children, and on weekends she sang herself. Acquaintance with musician and producer Jay Oliver made it possible to use a music studio. The man equipped it in the basement of the parental home in St. Louis.

Sheryl earned her first money performing themes in commercials - jingles. Initially, these were local orders. But later it came to voice-over advertising for McDonald's and Toyota.

During this time, she recorded backing vocals for Stevie Wonder, Belinda Carlisle, Jimmy Buffett and Don Henley. And with Michael Jackson she even went on the Bad tour (1987-1989). She also sang soundtracks for many films, including the James Bond film Tomorrow Never Dies (1997).

Early successes and disappointments Sheryl Crow

In 1992, Sheryl Crow recorded her first debut album under the direction of producer Sting. But they decided not to release it, as it turned out to be too “correct and smooth”. But a few copies still leaked to the press. The album also received wide distribution through fan trading. In the repertoire of Celine Dion, Tina Turner and Wynonna Judd, the songs "Crow" appear.

Starting to meet with Kevin Gilbert, the singer gets into the "Tuesday Music Club". Together with this group, he released another debut album "Tuesday Night Music Club" in 1993. But between Cheryl and Kevin, feuds begin over the authorship of the compositions.

The music was written by friends of the performer, and she took poems from an old book bought at a sale. The album itself did not cause much enthusiasm among the public at first, but the single "All I Wanna Do" became an unconditional hit, taking 5th place on the Billboard chart. Thanks to this composition, 7 million copies of "Monday Night Music Club" came out and in 1995 received three Grammy awards at once.

The second self-titled album in 1996, Sheryl Crow produced herself, recording guitar and keyboard themes in her own performance. This work brought two Grammy Awards for Best Female Rock Vocal Performance and Best Rock Album. Some retail chains refused to sell the record due to the presence of a protest song on it.

Glory and honor Sheryl Crow

After a brief affair with Eric Clapton, the star began to experience depression. Everyone believed that the single "My Favorite Mistake" was dedicated to him. But Crow herself denied this, explaining to the press that we are talking about another bad guy, whose name she categorically refused to name.

Whatever it was, but "The Globe Sessions" received a Grammy Award in 1999 for the best rock album. And the soundtrack to the film "Big Daddy" was chosen in the nomination "Best Female Rock Vocal Performance". The song "There Goes the Neighborhood" received the same nomination in 2001.

In 2002, the singer worked on the album C'mon C'mon. Upon learning of Kent Sexton's death from scleroderma, she took a break to record the hymn "Be Still, My Soul" at a friend's funeral. The single was subsequently released and brought in a good income. The record also became popular, winning two Grammy awards.

At this time, she simultaneously records soundtracks for films, assists the stars of the first magnitude, performing at their concerts - Michelle Branch, Johnny Cash, Mick Jagger. And in 2003 he released a collection of greatest hits "The Very Best of Sheryl Crow".

The Beginning of the End for Sheryl Crow

The first Grammy failure came with Wildflower (2005). He was nominated twice, but the prize went to another performer. Yes, and the commercial success of the disc, compared with previous works by Sheryl Crow, has declined significantly. To remedy the situation, I had to re-record the second single "Always on Your Side" in collaboration with Sting and again get into the Grammy nomination in 2008.

In 2006, the artist was diagnosed with breast cancer in the initial stage. Doctors gave positive forecasts for a cure. And the disease, indeed, managed to be overcome. But in 2011, something bad happened - a brain tumor, with which Crow lives to this day.

The American rock star has never been married, although she is credited with numerous affairs with famous men. Cheryl adopted two boys - Wyatt Stephen (born in 2007) and Levi James (born in 2010).

In 2008, she decided to return to the stage with the release of her sixth album Detours. In the first week, almost 100 thousand records were sold, and in the second more than 50 thousand. And in support of the album, a tour of 25 cities was held. And in 2010, the seventh studio album "100 Miles from Memphis" appeared.

It wasn't until 2019 that Sheryl Crow learned that during the 2008 University fire, the master and backup copies of her first seven albums were lost in the blaze.
