Fans of heavy reefs really liked the work of the American band Staind. The band's style is at the intersection of hard rock, post-grunge and alternative metal.
The compositions of the band often occupied leading positions in various authoritative charts. The musicians have not announced the breakup of the group, but their active work has been suspended.
Creation of the Staind group
The first meeting of future colleagues took place in 1993. Guitarist Mike Mashok and vocalist Aaron Lewis met at a party dedicated to the Christmas holidays.
Each of the musicians invited their friends. And John Vysotsky (drummer) and Johnny April (bass guitarist) appeared in the band.
For the first time on the public stage, the team performed in February 1995. He also presented listeners with cover versions of songs by Alice in Chains, Rage Against the Machine and Korn.
The group's independent tracks were dark, reminiscent of a heavier version of the popular Nirvana band.
A year and a half has passed in the preparation of the material and constant rehearsals. During this time, the group often performed in local pubs, gaining their first popularity.
The musicians say that their musical tastes were influenced by bands such as Pantera, Faith No More and Tool. This explains the sound of the band's first album, Tormented, which was released in November 1996.
In 1997, the band met vocalist Fred Durst of Limp Bizkit. The musician was so imbued with the work of novice musicians that he brought them to his label Flip Records. There the band recorded the second album Disfunction, which was released on April 13, 1999. The work was recognized by many colleagues. The group's compositions first began to sound on the radio.
The heyday of a career
The first serious success can be considered the 1st position in the Billse's Heatseeker charts, which the band's second album took six months after the official release. After that, the leading positions were in other charts. In support of sales, the group went on the first tour, from which the active touring activity of the group began.
The team performed as a headliner at festivals. In 1999, the band joined the Limp Bizkit tour and performed as the opening act for the Sevendust band. Two years later, the band released their third studio work, Break the Cycle. Sales of CDs reached unprecedented heights. "It's Been Awhile" hit the top 200 on the Billboard chart.
Thanks to this album, the band began to be compared with the famous representatives of the post-grunge style. With sales exceeding 7 million copies, the album became the best commercial project of the band's existence. In 2003, the group prepared the recording of the next album and went on a long tour.
The new work is called 14 Shades of Grey. A new stage in the team's career has begun. Their sound has changed to a calmer and softer one.
Creating the best albums of the group
The compositions So Far Away and Price to Play, which achieved serious success on various radio stations, were recognized as the best tracks from the work. This period in the life of the team is also marked by a serious legal "litigation" with the designer of the band's logo. The musicians suspected the artist of reselling their brand name.
On August 9, 2005, another studio work, Chapter V, was released. The success of the album repeated the achievements of the previous two, conquering the top of the Billboard top 200. And also won the "platinum" status. The first week of sales made it possible to sell over 185 discs.
The team began to appear on various television shows, participated in the program of the famous Howard Stern. He also went on tour in Australia and Europe, providing support for the sales of the studio album.
The Singles: 1996-2006 compilation was released in November 2006, featuring the band's best work and several unreleased singles.
The team toured extensively, collecting new material. He was also preparing for the release of the sixth album The Illusion of Progress (August 19, 2008). The compositions were not very popular, but the reputation of a strong and serious team was confirmed.
In March 2010, the band announced the start of work on a new album. Aaron Lewis never stopped working on a solo country project. He also created a charitable organization that assisted in the opening of secondary schools.
The group began to argue about the sound of the team. Some musicians insisted on making the sound heavier, but there was no general agreement in the team.
The end of this year is marked by sad news. The band's team decided to leave drummer John Vysotsky. The next album, Staind (September 13, 2011), was released with a guest session musician. The band continues to tour extensively with acts such as Shinedown, Godsmack and Halestorm.
Vacation or termination of activities of the Staind group
In July 2012, a statement from the collective appeared about the desire to temporarily stop active work. At the same time, attention was focused on the fact that there was no talk of the collapse of the collective, the musicians were simply taking a short vacation. Each of them has since found their own way.
Mike Mashok became the guitarist in the band Newsted. Mike Mashok became a member of Saint Asonia, and Aaron Lewis continued to work on a solo project.
The band's last big performance took place on August 4, 2017. The team presented several acoustic versions of their hits. According to the musicians, they will no longer be able to withstand the pace of work of the past years, but are still not ready to admit the breakup of the group.
The team plans to continue organizing concerts to meet their "fans". But there were no announcements about the appearance of new studio works.
