Stone Sour ("Stone Sour"): Biography of the group

The group was founded in the early 1990s. Then three friends, drinking Stone Sour alcoholic drink, decided to create a project with the same name. The composition of the team changed several times. In the band's tracks, critics note notes of growling and specific arrangements. And fans admire the mesmerizing stage performances of the artists.

Growling, or growl, is an extreme vocal technique. The essence of the growl lies in the sound production due to the resonating larynx.

The history of the creation and composition of the Stone Sour group

It all started in 1992. It was then that Corey and Joel met. The guys realized that they had common musical tastes and decided to create their own project. The duo later expanded into a trio. The talented drummer Sean Economaki joined the line-up.

In this composition, the musicians began to rehearse, record tracks and perform their first concerts. Since that time, the composition of the team has not changed much. The only thing is that the band members could not find a suitable guitarist for a long time. In 1995, James Ruth joined the band and the line-up became stable.

For a long time, the band members did not sign a contract with labels. They positioned themselves as independent musicians. The guys were content with the fact that they were active in concert activities. The first performances of the group took place in the small provincial town of Des Moines. The musicians took great pleasure in what they did.

This continued until 1997. Soon, Corey Taylor wanted to work separately from the team. Corey received an offer from the Slipknot collective. And he could not refuse to participate in such a promising group. Then the Slipknot team was just increasing its popularity.

Things without Corey Taylor in the group began to deteriorate. The mood in the team was also unhappy. James Root was the first to leave after Taylor, followed by Sean Economaki. Joel never saw himself on stage again. During this period of time, he got married, so he wanted to devote more time to his young family.

Josh Rand after some time insisted on the revival of the Stone Sour team. In the early 2000s, he wrote some tracks and showed them to Taylor. Corey was impressed with the musician's compositions. Among the tracks that Josh wrote were: Idle Hands, Orchids and Get Inside.

The musicians decided to revive the group. The guys thought about working under a new creative pseudonym. They wanted to change the name to Closure or Project X. After some thought, the musicians abandoned this idea.

The creative path and music of Stone Sour

After the reunion, the musicians made the right conclusions. First they started looking for a label. Soon the guys signed a contract with Roadrunner Records.

In support of the studio album, the musicians went on a large-scale tour. Several tracks from the debut album were nominated for a Grammy Award. As a result, the disc received the so-called "gold" status.

The composition of the LP included the track Bother. This composition became the soundtrack to the movie "Spider-Man". The compositions of the disc took the leading positions in the prestigious chart. The popularity of artists has increased several thousand times.

The musicians of the Stone Sour group were at the top of the musical Olympus. In an interview, Corey Taylor said:

“In Stone Sour, I feel much freer than, for example, in Slipknot. I like this project because it is here that I can express myself to the maximum without limiting my ideas. At the same time, we are very friendly with the members of the team. I feel like we're on the same wavelength."

It soon became known that the members of Stone Sour were working on their second studio album. The guys took a break for a long time before music lovers could enjoy new compositions.

Lineup changes

Joel Ekman experienced a personal loss. The fact is that the drummer lost his son. Joel could no longer rehearse and go on stage. After these events, Roy Mayorga took his place.

The change of musician was marked by the release of a new single. We are talking about the composition Hell & Consequences. A music video was later shot for the track. The creative life of the group gradually began to improve. Soon the band's repertoire was replenished with new releases: "30/30-150", Reborn and Through the Glass.

In 2006, the group's discography was replenished with the album Come What (ever) May. The musicians went on tour in support of the LP. As part of the tour, they visited the Russian Federation.

Three years later, the group presented their third studio album, which was called Audio Secrecy. During this time period, Sean Economaki left the band. He was soon replaced by Jameson Christopher. The presentation of the album took place in 2010.

The third studio album for the band members was experimental. Fans and music critics were pleasantly surprised by the contents of the LP. For example, Say You'll Haunt Me was more like a ballad. And other tracks included in the disc differed in the content of lyrical motifs. The album contains heavy tracks, but still the musicians managed to "melt the hearts" of the "fans" with poignant compositions.

Peak of Stone Sour's popularity

Thanks to the album, Stone Sour was noticed. It was during this period of time that the peak of the band's popularity was. A few years later, the group's discography was replenished with another LP House of Gold and Bones Part 1. A year later, the second part of the disc was released.

Soon James Root went to work in the group Slipknot. Members of the Stone Sour band could not find a guitarist for a long time. James was replaced by the talented Christian Martucci. At the same time, the presentation of the stunning mini-LP Mean While in Burbank took place. Then the musicians talked about the fact that they are preparing a new LP for fans.

The musicians pleased the "fans" with concerts and, meanwhile, spent considerable time at the recording studio. The record Hydrograd, which was released in 2017, was filled with rock and roll. The collection was warmly received not only by fans, but also by music critics.

In one of the interviews, the artists said that they love to create compositions in the genre of "heavy metal", hard rock and alternative rock. Music critics are sure that the musicians work in nu metal, although the band denies this.

Corey Taylor has a wide range of voice. Thanks to the vocal data of the singer, a special sound of musical compositions has been achieved. Corey's light vocals are perfectly combined with heavy riffs.

In 2013, Corey Taylor's talent was recognized at the highest level. The fact is that he became the best vocalist. This title was awarded to him by the Golden Gods.

Stone Sour at present

When asked by journalists about whether it is difficult for Corey Taylor to work in two groups at once, he answered the following:

“Stone Sour and Slipknot are successful individually, so questions for me are superfluous. I am pleased to work in both teams and I am not at all afraid of a busy tour schedule. Slipknot has already expanded its discography in 2019. Now we are working hard to ensure that Stone Sour's discography also becomes richer by at least one LP."

By the way, not only Corey Taylor is involved in other projects. For example, Roy Mayorga, who has been on drums for a long time, recently received an invitation to play at a Hellyeah concert as a guitarist. The performance was organized in honor of the tragically deceased musician Hellyeah.

During this period of time, Corey Taylor suffered from his antics on stage. The singer, as a result of some tricks that he demonstrated during the concert, was hospitalized by ambulance.

A comforting post soon appeared on Corey's social media. As it turned out, he had a successful operation on his knees. The singer asked for forgiveness for the disrupted concerts. Taylor said that in the near future he and his team will work out all the canceled performances. He didn't disappoint the fans. 2019 was full of concerts.

The latest news from the life of Stone Sour can be found on social networks. It is there that photos and videos from the band's concerts appear. In 2020, a record was released, which included the old hits of the group. The collection received the laconic name THE BEST.
