From what it all began

The group was created in 1998. Performers Kisha, Matia and Siobhan have known each other since school. Very often they performed together at school parties, where they were noticed by manager Ron Tom, who invited them to audition. When the girls were 14 years old, they signed their first contract with London Records.

The name of the group was due to the school nickname Kishi, whom everyone called sugar baby (sugar baby). Therefore, in 1998, a very young girl-pop group, the Sugababes, appeared in the UK.

Already the first single "Overload" took the 6th position of the British charts, and was also nominated for "Best Single" at the BRIT Awards. But such popularity among girls was not only in England, but also in Germany, New Zealand, where they took 3rd and 2nd positions, respectively.

Three more hits from the album Onetouch: New Year, Runfor Cover and Soul Sound helped the band gain a foothold on the scene and not remain a one-single group, which for them was Overload.

Members of the Sugababes group have become truly popular and loved in Europe.

In 2001, after three years of the group, Siobhan Donaghy decided to leave. The participant did not name the true reasons for her decision, referring to personal circumstances. A replacement was quickly found in her place.

Heidi Range, a former member of the equally popular Atomic Kitten group, began to sing in the group. She brought a kind of zest to the new team, which played in a new way.

The album Angels With Dirty Faces became very famous due to the changes in the band and the new record company. The girls were taken under their wing by Island Records.

The first single Freak Like Me from the new album, produced by Richard Ax, became wildly popular and took 1st position in the UK charts for a long time.

Shortly after that, the Sugababes released the song Round Round, which repeated the fate of the first single from the new album and became No. 1 in Britain, and also took the lead in Ireland, the Netherlands and New Zealand.

The third single, Stronger, also topped the charts. And the released video for this hit was kept in the SMS chart on MTV Russia for 12 weeks, taking 18th position among clips from around the world.

At the same time, the Sugababes managed to agree with Sting on the use of samples of his famous song Shape of my heart, the group recorded their own unique version of the song Shape, which received recognition among the band's fans.

On the wave of popularity Sugababes

By the end of 2003, on the wave of success and popularity, the Sugababes released their third studio album Three.

Hole in the Head became the main single of the album, after the release it immediately took the 1st position in the chat in England, as well as Denmark, Ireland, the Netherlands and Norway.

The next hit released was the soundtrack to the movie Love Actually. The Sugababes had a video clip for this song with cuts from the New Year's comedy.

The album's third single was In the Middle. The hit became no less popular and took 8th position in the UK hit parade. The same thing happened with the composition Caught in a Moment, which firmly took the 8th position of the chart.

At the height of the popularity of the girl trio, it became known that Matia Buena was expecting a child from her boyfriend Jay. In 2005, the lead singer of the Sugababes became a mother.

Tipping point of the group

October 2, 2005 the world heard a new single from the Sugababes Push the Button. It went to No. 1 in the UK and was already the band's fourth single to reach No. 1 in the country. The song also became popular in Ireland, Austria and New Zealand.

On the other mainland, Australia, this hit went platinum and took the 3rd position of the chart. This is what contributed to the fact that the song was nominated for the BRIT Awards as "Best British Single".

High reviews for the songs made the album Taller in More Ways No. 1 in Britain.

On December 21, 2005, it became known that Matia Buena had decided to leave the group. On the official website of the group Sugababes appeared information that her decision was due to personal reasons. Matia was no longer able to combine a difficult tour schedule with motherhood.

The girls remained friendly and close to each other, because they worked together for many years and managed to become a family. After a short break, it was decided to find a new soloist in the Sugababes group in order to maintain the previous three-member line-up. Such a popular group could not radically change the look and style already familiar to all “fans”.

Therefore, Amell Berrabah, who was previously part of the Boo 2 team, appeared in the group.

Together, the girls had to re-record the already finished single Red Dress, which appeared on the radio already in 2006. Together with other members, Amell had to re-record several more singles and re-release the album, which as a result took 18th position in the UK top.

Beginning of the end of the group

In the new line-up, the girls recorded several more albums: Change, Catfights and Spotlights, Sweet7, which, unfortunately, did not become as popular as the previously released ones.

Some singles still topped the charts in the UK and other European countries, but did not repeat the band's past successes.

It was the decline in the group's positions that led to the fact that they were bought by the label of the famous American rapper Jay-Z Roc Nation. This opened up a new market for the group to promote their own product. After the release of the hit Get Sexy, which took the 2nd position of the chart, the life of the group began to improve.

However, at this point, Kisha announced her departure from the group, deciding to start a solo career. The new label, wanting to keep their new team, took the place of Kishi Jade Yuen (participant in the Eurovision Song Contest 2009). The entire previously prepared album for the Sugababes was re-recorded and prepared for release in 2010.

After the release of the album, many "fans" of the Sugababes became disillusioned with the new sound, although the singles still occupied leading positions in the UK charts. At the end of 2011, it was decided to suspend the work of the group for an indefinite period. A statement appeared on the group's website that the girls are taking a break in their careers, but the team is not breaking up.
