Thomas Owen Mostyn Rowlands was born on January 11, 1971 in London (UK). He lived all his life in England with his parents. Even at school, the boy was interested in music. He listened to different music, but preferred such directions as 1-Tone, New Order, Kraftwerk.

Together with his comrades, he created a group. Several songs were recorded. The most popular compositions were: Sea of ​​Beats and Mustn't Grumble. However, after leaving school, the guy decided to enter the University of Manchester, and his departure led to the fact that the group broke up. Tom entered the Faculty of History, but he did not have a great desire to study, the guy was interested in the stage, clubs and concerts in Manchester.

Edmund John Simons was born on June 9, 1970 in London (South District). Unlike Tom, Ed was interested not only in music, but also in aviation. Until the age of 14, his parents thought that the guy would go to study at a flight college. But in his teens, Edmund began to frequent clubs and the choice was made in favor of music. 

Ed went to the same university and faculty as Rowlands. Ed and Tom met at lectures on the history of the Middle Ages. After that, they began to spend a lot of time in clubs. Thanks to a common interest in music, the idea of ​​\uXNUMXb\uXNUMXbcreating a group began to emerge.

History of group creation

While studying at the university, the guys often visited clubs. And in 1992, Ed and Tom began to moonlight as DJs at the Naked Under Lather nightclub, and performed under the name Dust Brothers. 

At that time, for the guys it was a hobby, and not an opportunity to make good money and become famous. Despite the fact that the guys created mostly remixes, visitors liked their tracks, and they realized that they had to take things seriously.

While Tom and Ed were studying at the university, they did not have the opportunity to rent a studio. There were not enough DJ fees, but they wanted to record tracks. Then the guys decided to re-equip their bedrooms in the studio and acquire a minimum amount of equipment.

It was in this place that The Chemical Brothers began to emerge and the first recording of The Dust Brother Song to the Siren was released.

In 1993, Tom and Edmund graduated and returned to London, where they continued to work as DJs in local clubs. Already in 1995, the guys went on their first tour. They visited many European countries, but the trip to the USA was fatal. After Tom and Ed performed there under the name The Dust Brothers, they were sued. 

The main claim of the lawsuit was the use of the name, which belonged to the production company. The guys had to change the duo's name in order to avoid problems with the law and not receive huge sanctions. In 1995, The Dust Brothers changed their name to The Chemical Brothers.

Release of the first album of The Chemical Brothers

In the same 1995, the musicians signed a contract with Virgin Records, and this was a great start for writing their own album. A year later, they presented their first work, Exit Planet Dust, which was highly appreciated by music critics.

The album contained not only instrumental tracks, but also vocal ones, which were recorded with such famous performers as Beth Orton and Tim Burgess.

Starting from 1995-1996. Tim and Ed started touring a lot. They opened for Underworld and Orbital and took the US stage by storm as The Chemical Brothers. In early 1996, the band's first debut album went gold.

Recording of the second album and other works

After the incredible success, the duo began writing their second album. Work on it took place already in his own studio. The second album was called Dig Your Own Hole. Work on it took place to the sounds of old hip-hop. The band's new work was well received by critics. I especially liked the Block Rocking Beats track. The band won a Grammy for it.

Between 1997 and 1998 the band was constantly approached with requests for a remix. But the guys reacted to this case selectively and did not agree to work with everyone. So, for example, they refused the Metallic group, and with The Dust Brothers they created a remix.

With the second album, The Chemical Brothers visited most of Europe. And in Japan, they became official representatives in Tokyo's Liquid Rooms. With the tour over, Ed and Tom decided to move into DJing.

Then the following collections were released:

Surrender (1999). The project involved such musicians as: Noel Gallagher, Jonathan Donahue, Hope Sandoval.
