The Ronettes (Ronets): Biography of the group

In today's world, there are a significant number of actors, singers, bands and various celebrities. Due to their profession and talent, they are very popular among their "fans". Despite the fact that people admire the abilities of the stars, they are also actively interested in their personal and daily life. In addition, the "fans" were interested in how famous personalities achieved success.

The creation of a magnificent trio arose in New York in 1959. Young and active girls decided to try themselves at a music competition, where they won. Back then they called themselves The Darling Sisters. The group existed for 7 years and won the hearts of many viewers.

The youth of the members of The Ronettes: how did it all begin?

From early childhood, the sisters sang at the holidays with their grandmothers and relatives. Even then there was a noticeable interest in singing and love for music - the girls were very artistic. And their voices sounded loud, like bells. When the girls became adults, they decided to develop their musical skills and singing.

In 1957, Estelle entered the then-popular Star Time art school, where she learned to dance professionally. Veronica was fond of the famous rock band The Teenagers. It was Veronica who created the group in 1959 and named it The Ronettes. Their first joint successful debut took place in 1957 at a talent competition.

Biography of soloists

Veronica and Estelle Bennett

Veronica was born in 1943, her sister Estelle was born two years earlier. The difference between the sisters was almost imperceptible. They were always friends and shared with each other all the events that happened in life. His father was Irish-American, and his mother was African-American and Cherokee.

They also had an African American cousin Tully, with whom the girls also got along well. In the Bennet family, the great-grandfather was Chinese. Veronica and Estelle loved music and singing since childhood, so they developed in this area with significant success. Also, the sisters have successfully arranged their personal lives, and each of them has children.

Nedra Talley

The girl is a close relative of the Bennett family. Nedra was born on January 27, 1946 in an ordinary American family. She is of Puerto Rican and African American descent. The girl was three years younger than her sisters (Veronica and Estelle). But that never got in the way of their great relationship.

The singer successfully arranged her personal life. She married Scott Ross and they also have four children. Talley performed on stage for 46 years (from 1959 to 2005). Now the artist is 74 years old.

The Ronettes' successes and first songs

In 1961 Colpix Records became interested in the group. At the same time, the girls successfully passed the casting, performing the song What's So Cute About Sweet Sixteen?. This was a victory for the group, because the studio was considered very popular and it was not easy to get there.

Four famous tracks were recorded in the studio: I Want a Boy, What's So Sweet About Sweet Sixteen?, I'm Going to Leave While I'm Ahead and My Angel Guide. The songs are considered the first singles. They were released under the old name of the group The Darling Sisters. The studio then released two other Silhouettes singles and a reissue of I'm Going to Quit While I'm a Head.

Then the girls broke the contract with the studio and began to collaborate with Phil Spector and his studio Philles Records. By the way, one of the soloists of the group, Veronica, married Phil Spector. Thanks to cooperation with this studio, the girls were also very popular. Songs recorded include Why Don't They Letus Fallin Love?, The Twist, The Wah-Watusi, Mashed Potato Time and Hot Pastrami.

Breakup of The Ronettes

Numerous tours to different countries and continents with the song I Can Hear Music did not make enough of a splash. Popularity was even more difficult to win. In the end, the girls decided to disperse and leave their careers. However, in 1979 the group was resurrected again, but not for long. The former soloists of the group could no longer and did not want to perform on stage due to personal problems.

Thus, the group broke up and since the beginning of the 1980s has not appeared on stage anymore. Each girl continued her life, taking care of her family and children, forgetting about her popularity.
