The Roop is a popular Lithuanian band formed in 2014 in Vilnius. The musicians work in the musical direction of indie-pop-rock. In 2021, the band released several LPs, one mini-LP and several singles.
In 2020, it was revealed that The Roop would represent the country at the Eurovision Song Contest. The plans of the organizers of the international competition were violated. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Eurovision Song Contest had to be cancelled.
The group became famous not only at home, but also abroad. The work of the team is admired in Serbia, Belgium and Brazil.
The history of creation and the composition of the team The Roop
The group was founded in 2014. The line-up included three members: Vaidotas Valyukevičius, Mantas Banishauskas and Robertas Baranauskas. Once in the team there was another member Vainius Šimukėna.
Before the formation of the band, the musicians already had considerable experience of working on stage. In addition, the guys had a well-trained voice. They knew how to play musical instruments.
The trio decided to conquer music lovers with the presentation of the musical composition Be Mine. A video clip was also filmed for the track. The actress Severija Janušauskaite and Viktor Topolis took part in the video recording.
After the presentation of the debut single Be Mine (“Be mine”), the band members spent almost four years in a recording studio in search of their own original sound. The musicians wanted to remain original.
Some time later, the group presented another clip In My Arms. On the wave of popularity, the premiere of another work took place. We are talking about the video clip for the track Not Too Late. When creating the clip, the director used panoramic video.
The Roop: Debut album presentation
The band's discography was opened with To Whom It May Concern. The album was created at the recording studio DK Records. The collection was warmly received not only by fans, but also by music critics. The group was predicted a good future.
In 2017, the premiere of the LP Ghosts took place. A year later, the musicians presented the EP-album Yes, I Do. The band toured extensively during this period. Live performances allowed to expand the audience of fans.
In 2020, the musicians signed a contract with Warner Music Group. Then the team got into several nominations of the Lithuanian MAMA award: “Song of the Year” and “Video of the Year”. The jury and the fans were very impressed with the song On Fire.
Participation in the National Selection of the Eurovision Song Contest
The musicians made their first attempts to win the Eurovision Song Contest back in 2018. Then in the qualifying round they presented the track Yes, I Do. In the final selection, The Roop took 3rd place.
In 2020, the team again decided to try their luck again. The musicians again took part in the national selection for the Eurovision Song Contest. The judges were delighted with the performance of the musicians. And in 2020, the group received the right to represent Lithuania at the song contest in Rotterdam.
But it soon became known that representatives of the European Broadcasting Union canceled the contest in 2020 due to the coronavirus epidemic. A letter was published on the website and in official social networks announcing the cancellation of the competition this year.
The Roop group was not upset, because they were sure that it was she who would represent Lithuania at the international competition in 2021. In autumn, the musicians confirmed their participation in the National Selection.
In 2021, the trio presented the track Discoteque. The musicians reported that it was with this musical composition that they were going to conquer the song contest. On the day of the track's release, the musicians also presented a video. He scored several million views on YouTube video hosting.
At the beginning of February 2021, The Roop became the repeated representative of Lithuania at the international song contest. The musicians were approved not only by the audience, but also by the judges.

At the end of March 2021, the MAMA award ceremony took place. The team won in several nominations: "Song of the Year", "Pop Group of the Year", "Group of the Year" and "Discovery of the Year".
Today, the musicians are preparing for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021. They consider many years of experience on stage, a reliable team and professionalism to be their strengths in the performance.
The Roop's performances were appreciated not only by the European audience. The judges also awarded the team with pretty good marks. As a result of voting, the team took 8th place.
