Early Life as an Artist Tom Kaulitz

Full name Tom Kaulitz-Trumper, was born on September 1, 1989 in the city of Leipzig. He grew up with his twin brother Bill Kaulitz, who was born 10 minutes after he was born. They used to live in Hamburg but later moved to Los Angeles. Their mother is Simon Kaulitz Charlotte and their father is Jörg Kaulitz.

When the twins were six years old, their parents separated. Three years later, the brothers and their mother moved from Magdeburg to live with their stepfather, the musician Gordon Trumper, in Leutsch. As kids, Tom and Bill Kaulitz were crazy about doing Radio Bremen.

Talking about his education, he attended the Joachim Friedrich High School in Wolmirstedt, which he left in 2006 due to their musical career. In the spring of 2008, he received his high school diploma from an online school. In April 2009, he was awarded the Distance Learning Youth Award for "exemplary school achievement".

Tom Kaulitz started writing music at the age of seven and showed an interest in learning the guitar. His mother's boyfriend Gordon noticed Tom's passion for music. Tom's brother, Bill, also showed a flair for singing, so Gordon helped the boys start their own band.

At the age of ten, Tom and Bill started performing live in Magdeburg. During one of their shows they met Georg Listing and Gustav Schäfer. Together they created a new group called "Devilish", which was later renamed "Tokio Hotel".

Participation in the Tokio Hotel group

Tokio Hotel, a rock band from Germany that exudes sex appeal through their stage activities, impulsive music and very good looks. Their transition from the nation's most acclaimed band to a continental sensation was smoothed over by the energetic performance of their single 'Monsoon' at the 2007 MTV Europe Music Awards, where they were also awarded an International act.

With only two studio albums in hand, the band was more than ready to enter the US music market with the release of a LP titled "Scream America", which includes the English version of their best-selling singles "Scream" and "Ready, Set, Go!". After receiving a Jade Puget mix from AFI and Blaqk Audio, the album was released to US stores on May 6, 2008.

Known for being relatively young by the time they became famous, the band members began their careers long before they hit double digits. Twins Bill and Tom Kaulitz (both born September 1, 1989) spearheaded their interest in music while still 9 years old.

Bill was taking notes and Tom was grabbing a guitar, and they soon ended up in several talent shows and auditions. During a show in 2001, they met drummer Gustav Schafer (b. September 8, 1988) and bassist George Listing (b. March 31, 1987), who they believe has a similar musical direction.

Founding of the Tokio Hotel Group

The four formed the band Devilish, which was soon changed to Tokio Hotel after Bill met with music producer Peter Hoffmann in 2003. Signed under Sony BMG, the band gained valuable experience working with singers such as David Yost, Dave Roth and Pat Besner. However, before the band had completed their career, Sony terminated the contract and in 2005 the band became under the Universal Music Studio label.

Before releasing their debut album, they tried the ground by releasing "Durch den Monsun" or "Through the Monsoon" in English. Surprisingly, it became an instant hit in German, peaking at #1 in the local market. The popularity soon spread to Austria, where the band also built a loyal fan base that helped the single top the country's charts.

Without hesitation, the band released a more energetic piece of "Screi" (Scream) for an even warmer reception. By the time Schrei's debut album was released in September 2005, the band was already an invaluable commodity in their home country, Germany. "Schrei" eventually acquired platinum through worldwide sales and was the first step towards international popularity.

During the summer of that year, they toured constantly across the country in promotion of the album, performing in a show that attracted over 75 people. While Bill's voice changed during puberty, they re-recorded some of the tracks on the original album, which will be available on the 000 reissue version called "Schrei - So Laut du Kannst" (Shout - as loud as you can).

The band's second album

The second album was prepared immediately and recorded during 2006 and then completed in February 2007 under the name "Zimmer 483" (room 483). The first single from the album "Ubers Ende der Welt" (Ready, Set, Go!) quickly became a hit and reached the top five positions on the singles chart in several European countries such as France, Austria, Poland and Switzerland.

As soon as the need arose to distribute their tracks to an even larger audience, the band released their first English album "Scream" in June 2007 for distribution in Europe.

In 2007, they also launched an attempt to invade America by choosing "Scream" as their first single and releasing the video "Ready, Set, Go!". And from that moment, they started to play on the international music tape. "We've always dreamed of doing it in the States," Bill said. “We grew up listening to American bands like Metallica, Green Day and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. We wanted a chance to do what they do."
