Zetetics is a Ukrainian band founded by the charming singer Lika Bugayeva. The band's tracks are the most vibe sounding, which is seasoned with indie and jazz motifs.
The history of formation and composition of the Zetetics group
Officially, the team was formed in 2014, in Kyiv. The leader and permanent soloist of the team is the charming Anzhelika Bugaeva.
Lika comes from provincial Svetlovodsk. She was born on February 22, 1991. From early childhood, Bugaeva grew up listening to the best examples of jazz, blues and rock and roll.
She adored the work of Charlie Parker. Moreover, Lika took an example from him. The artist hooked Lika not only as a creative person, but also as a very interesting, multifaceted personality.
In addition to general education, the girl also attended a music school. Lika studied at the evening department. According to Bugaeva, she never learned to play any musical instrument at the institution. A little later, she independently mastered playing the guitar, piano and drums. The years of study at the music school were not in vain anyway. Lika devoted 5 years to mastering jazz vocals.
Jazz is free music. That was what impressed me so much. But, as in any other business, you need a base and practice. At first, you learn to improvise, gradually adding something of your own…”, says Lika.
Initially, the guys performed under the creative pseudonym Lika Bugaeva, and only later, they changed the name to Zetetics. The name translates as "seeker". “A friend from London helped us find Zetetic. When I first heard this word, I realized that our second longplay will receive this name. For me, this word is very deep and assertive. I have always dreamed of taking part in a group that would resonate with the rest of the bands…”, says Lika.
The guys work in the styles of indie rock, britpop, rock, alternative. In addition to Lika, the members are: Stanislav Lipetsky, Alexander Solokha, Igor Odayuk. By the way, Bugaeva is the author of all the tracks of the group. In addition, it is she who owns the rights to the Zetetics repertoire.
Reference: Britpop is an era in rock music on the UK scene in the 1990s, the main feature of which was the revival of the dominant guitar style of pop music of the 60s of the last century.
The creative path of the Zetetics group
Even before the official creation of the group, Lika presented a video for a composition from the future LP. We are talking about the video You and I. In 2014, the debut collection Finally I see was released, which was included in the list of the best albums of Ukraine in 2014 according to Inspired.
The single Fly Away brought the greatest popularity to the band. A very informal video was filmed for the work, in which the frontwoman sang the song in sign language. Thus, even those who cannot hear could understand the song.
In 2015, the team led by Lika performed under the banner of Lika Bugaeva. Around this period of time, the premiere of the second full-length album Zetetic took place, under an updated creative pseudonym. 10 tracks performed in English - hit the music lovers in the very "heart".
“We worked on the second Zetetics LP for a year, and I was constantly in the recording studio. When I feel an idea somewhere nearby, then I need to be completely alone for at least a few days, and only then a puzzle is formed in my head, ”Lika comments on the release of the record.
A few years later, the premiere of the Rooftop Live brand film took place - a live concert and interview with members of the Zetetics team. Fans rewarded the artists with "sweet" compliments.
On the wave of popularity, the guys presented their third longplay. It's called 11:11. The musicians promised that fans will receive a mystical and iconic album. 9 tracks full of impressionistic emotions were greeted with a bang by the fans of the group.
In addition, the team wrote and recorded a piece of music for the film Nightmare Director, which premiered in 2019.
Zetetics: our days
In 2020, the musicians presented the track "Salt". Note that the piece of music was recorded in two versions - in Russian and Ukrainian.
In the same year, Zetetics became part of the Musical Catalog of the Ukrainian Institute. The purpose of the institute is to popularize the Ukrainian cultural product.
But, the real gift was waiting for the fans on November 24, 2021. The guys finally pleased the music lovers with the premiere of the Cold Star album. Recall that this is the 4th record of the Ukrainian team. In it, the guys moved away from the indie-rock sound of the previous album, towards experiments with electronics. Critics noted that Leakey's vocals became more tragic.
