Fans of Sergei Shnurov's work were looking forward to when he would present a new musical project, which he spoke about back in March. Cord finally abandoned music in 2019. For two years, he tormented the "fans" in anticipation of something interesting. At the end of the last spring month, Sergei finally broke his silence by presenting the Zoya group.
In May 2021, he introduced music experts and music lovers to the project's vocalist, Ksenia Rudenko. Soon the debut album was released. The collection was headed by 14 pieces of music. In addition, Cord organized the performance of the team at a private party in St. Petersburg.
Formation of the Zoya team
The new project of Sergei Shnurov became known at the end of March 2021. At the same time, he introduced the group's vocalist, Ksenia Rudenko, to the public. The public was taken aback by curiosity, because before that, Cord only threw hints about the foundation of the ZOYA trademark.
Ksenia Rudenko recently started her singing career. At the time of enrollment in the group, experts counted only two musical compositions in its repertoire. Before presenting the project, Ksenia “lit up” on the central television of the Russian Federation. She took part in the filming of the show "I see your voice." Rudenko, together with V. Meladze, delighted the audience with the performance of a sensual composition.
Already on June 1, 2021, the band's discography was opened by the debut LP. The collection was called "This is life." Rudenko impressed the experts with her strong vocals. The daring tracks of the debut studio album told about sex, representatives of the stronger sex and politics.
In the same period of time, "Zoya" first appeared in public. The team attended the opening of the St. Petersburg Economic Forum. This event took place one day after the release of the album. Rudenko took the stage, accompanied by the musicians of Shnurov's former group.
At the same time, the founder of the project, Shnur, gave a detailed interview, as a result of which some details of the birth of the group became known. So, Sergey said that the start of the project began when he composed the piece of music "Paradise". Cord thought that he did not want to go on stage, but he did not mind at all that his work flowed from the lips of other artists. Then there was an acquaintance with Ksenia Rudenko, and he caught himself thinking that in this girl he found what he was looking for.
According to Cord, he saw fire and fire in the girl. The artist was impressed not only by Rudenko's external data, but also by her vocal data. He attracted musicians from the last composition of Leningrad and off and on. The guys teamed up and a few months later presented their debut LP.
The creative path of the team
Almost immediately after meeting and discussing working moments, Rubenko and Shnur signed a contract. Ksenia immediately began recording the musical work "Paradise".
Cord did not waste time in vain - and while his colleague was recording her debut song, he began to compose the track "Man". After some time, Ksenia began recording the compositions “Bright Life”, “Ballet”, “Rise, Peak”, “Vacation”. Other works included in the track list of the debut LP were recorded in this way.
Music critics caught themselves thinking that "Zoya" follows "Leningrad". The band's tracks contain profanity. In addition, the singer is not shy in expressions. The record has an age limit of 30+. Cord said that the compositions of his project would be unequivocally understood by people with life experience.
The main theme of the debut collection was various problems of the modern woman. The singer talks about the interaction of women and men, age, art, the virtual world, politics, sex. The tracks of the debut album are a kind of mix of romance and folk art.
Cord noted that his plans do not include performing on the same stage as part of the Zoya project. He said that he would promote his offspring in every possible way. He is very interested in how his work looks from the outside. Shnurov has already hinted that he plans to change vocalists. In his opinion, this will add some originality to the project.
