Broken Social Scene was founded in 1999 in Toronto. The Founding Fathers are Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning. The peculiarity of the group lies in the fact that in the compositions you can hear a combination of almost all musical instruments. Here you will hear the sound of a horn, a cello, and woodwinds.

Broken Social Scene group and its creative path

Kevin and Brendan performed together at first. The guys released their debut work Feel Goodlost. Over time, other musicians joined the duet. 

After a while, there were already five people in the squad. The team released the album You Forgot It in People, thanks to which the musicians gained the first "wave" of popularity. This event took place in 2002. The work was released thanks to producer David Neufeld.

In 2003, the Broken Social Scene group received the first award for the realized album. The composition Lover's Spit sounded in such films as: "Sleep with me", "Obsession", "The Love Crime of Gillian Gass" and was also in episodes of two TV series.

In 2005, the guys released their next album Broken Social Scene in full format. This third studio album was released on October 4th. The album was originally going to be called Windsurfing Nation.

The album was very popular, and also received a significant number of awards and positive reviews. It was thanks to this release that the group enjoyed immense popularity.

In the summer of 2007, the founder of the musical group conceived the idea of ​​recording the album Spirit If ..., in which former and current members of the BSS group participated. The work was presented thanks to the producers Ojedu Benchetrit and Charles Spirin.

A book about the band and the release of a new album

The book This Book is Broken was written about the guys in 2009. In addition to their history, the book contains posters and photographs. There are also interviews of each participant. Later, the movie The Movie is Broken was made about the guys. 

A year later, Broken Social Scene released their fourth album, Forgiveness Rock Record, with 14 songs. Contributors: Leslie Feist, Emily, Hines (Metric), Scott Cannberg (Pavement), Sebastian Granger (Death from Above 1979) and Sam Prekop.

In addition to recordings, the musicians often performed at festivals and concerts. In 2011, the members took a short break and only appeared in public in 2013. 

The latest album Hug of Thunder by Broken Social Scene was released in 2017. This collection was helped to record 18 participants. 

Broken Social Scene founders

Brendan Kаnning

Brendan was born in 1969 in Toronto. Canning began performing for the first time in the 1990s. At first, Brendan just sang, and also played the guitar, bass and keyboards. He was simultaneously a member of several musical groups that were created in his city.

In the summer of 2008, the artist's first own album, Something for All of Us, was released. And in 2009, Canning even took part in one of the famous documentary series City Sonic. It starred 20 talented artists who were originally from Canada.

October 1, 2013 "fans" heard the second album You Gots 2 Chill. The label where the album was recorded is the property of the artist. It was on it that he released his first album. After the release of the album, Canning decided to go on a musical tour of the States. 

Canning released his last solo album Home Wrecking Years in 2016. 

Kevin Drew

Drew was born on September 9, 1976. He grew up in the western part of Toronto. He attended an art school, where he acquired all the necessary skills, fell in love with music very much.

The KC Accidental group is known to many. It was its members that were Drew and Charles Spirin, who are currently the current members of the Broken Social Scene group.

In 2009, Drew participated in the release of the album, which was created for a charity event. The goal is to raise funds for the fight against AIDS. The album was called Dark Was the Night. Then the guy released two more albums - Darlings and It's Decided.

Drew was married to Jo-Anne Goldsmith. As a child, he attended art school with his wife, and they also played the trumpet.

Since the release of the last album, the musicians have released individual songs such as: All I Want, Can't Find My Heart and "1972". All of them are included in the Let's Try the After EP.
