Capital Cities is an indie pop duo. The project appeared in the sunny state of California, in one of the coziest big cities - in Los Angeles. The creators of the group are two of its members - Ryan Merchant and Sebu Simonyan, who have not changed throughout the existence of the musical project, despite the difficulties and creative misunderstanding.
How it all began?
The group appeared thanks to Ryan Merchant and Seb Simonyan. Young people almost immediately noted many common interests among themselves, as well as a love for music of a certain direction. They began to compose together, and after three years of such work, a musical project appeared, which still exists today.
This acquaintance completely turned the life of both members of the group. The guys complemented each other, supporting the most unusual, strange ideas and developing them.
The first work of the creative team was composing music for commercials. They were engaged in this activity for three years, then they seriously thought about their own musical career.
The first songs of the group Capital Cities
Officially, the musical group has existed since 2008, however, Capital Cities musicians released their first track, which is considered their debut, only in 2011.
The guys released the single Safe and Sound, which immediately appealed to many listeners. Unfortunately, the musicians at the initial stage of their career did not tend to release new songs often, and the fans had to wait for the release of the new single Kangaroo Court for almost a year - until May 1, 2012.
Debut track success
The first song of the group, released in 2011, took a leading position in the world hit parade and stayed in the lead for quite a long time. One of the advertising companies in Germany even used the composition for its own purposes - of course, with the official consent of the representatives of the musical group.
After that, the group's musical style began to be recognized all over the world, and their popularity only increased every day.
Experts say that the young team borrows some melodies from popular and cult groups, but this is considered their trick. They are able to transform old, well-known melodies and "give" them a new life. Because of this, they attract so much attention to themselves.
Debut album by Capital Cities
Already in 2013, the band released their first album In a Tidal Wave of Mystery. He liked the already grown army of fans of the project, as well as music critics.
This is how the first album of the project appeared, which caused a significant stir. Already in 2012, the musicians, having connections after commercials, signed a contract with a record company and for a long time performed work on behalf of the label.
Since the group had already collaborated with major record companies, the disc stayed on the music charts for a long time.
Despite the fact that the group decided to leave the advertising field, the first song from the debut album became part of many advertising campaigns around the world. This allowed the musicians to expand their audience and earn money to record a full-fledged record.
All albums, despite the collaboration with the music company Lazy Hooks, the musicians wrote and recorded on their own. For the design of the cover of the records, artists were invited, who were often unknown and original, fully supporting the style of the group.
Touring America
Already in 2013, the band's musicians began to actively tour the United States. The Capital Cities group did not hesitate to invite famous guests. This was one of the reasons that tickets for performances were sold out at lightning speed.
In a short period of time, the group performed at the largest venues in America. It has established itself as an original group that creates music for the soul.

In the entire history of its existence, the group has shot a few clips. So, the musicians shot the video for the first song Safe and Sound in one of the largest restored theaters, and instead of the plot, the video used different dances over the past century - a kind of chronology.
This video work immediately enjoyed great popularity, even topped some charts. The video has also won several music awards.
In the same 2013, the band shot an ironic video for the song Kangaroo Court. Several actors took part in the filming of the video, and they acted as animals. The video clip surprised fans as it features animals that act like humans.
Break in creativity
Later, the group took a break and did not record new large-scale projects for a long time. However, already in 2017, the guys released a mini-record Swimming Pool Summer. Despite the fact that for almost four years the Capital Cities group did not release full-fledged collections, they continued to work on music and chose a new sound.
During their short history, the musicians managed to receive several nominations of major music awards. Also perform as an opening act for world-class musicians. For a while, the full line-up even toured with Katy Perry. Thanks to this, the musicians gained even more popularity.
