Lyukke Lee is the pseudonym of the famous Swedish singer (despite the common misconception about her eastern origin). She earned the recognition of the European listener due to the combination of different styles.

Her work at various times included elements of punk, electronic music, classic rock and many other genres.

To date, the singer has four solo records on her account, some of them are widely distributed in the world.

Childhood and family Lyukke Lee

The real name of the singer is Lee Lyukke Timothy Zakrisson. Her stage name is not a pseudonym at all, but only a shortened variation of her name.

The girl was born in 1986 in the provincial town of Ystad (Sweden). Her love for music was not only instilled in her from childhood, but was also in her blood. The fact is that her parents in their youth also showed creative abilities, even tried to make music.

So, her mother Cersty Stiege was for some time the lead singer of the punk band Tant Strul. For a long time, my father was a member of the Dag Vag musical ensemble, where he was a guitarist.

However, over time, Lyukke Lee's parents chose other professions for themselves. Mother gave preference to no less creative occupation - she became a photographer.

The family loved to travel and rarely stayed in any place for long. Immediately after the birth of their daughter, the parents decided to move to Stockholm, and when the girl was 6 years old, they went to live in Portugal in mountainous settlements. Here they lived for five years, often briefly leaving for Nepal, India, Lisbon and other cities.

Recording of Lykke Li's first album

When the girl was 19 years old, her family moved to New York. They lived in Brooklyn's Bushwick neighborhood. However, a full-fledged move did not work out, and after three months another place of residence was chosen.

But the atmosphere of New York (more precisely, Brooklyn) was very memorable for the girl, and just two years later Lykke Lee returned here to record her debut album.

So, in 2007, her first album Little Bit was released, which was released in EP format. The mini-album was recorded in a very short time and presented to the public quite successfully.

It cannot be said that he became popular, but the singer interested fans of alternative music.

The album was mentioned in the popular music blog Stereogum and received the first reviews there. Here Lycke's music has been described as an interesting combination of electronic soul music and "icing sugar pop". The review was not very positive, but the attention is won.

Lyukke Lee's first studio disc

It is not known for what reasons (maybe it was the lukewarm reception of the mini-release), but when it came to recording and releasing a full-fledged music album, Lycke decided not to do it in the USA.

The first studio disc was called Youth Novels and was released in Scandinavia. The release label was LL Recordings.

It's interesting how the album spread around the world. The fact is that he did not make any sharp and stunning sensation. The release was first released in Scandinavia (in January 2008), and only in June it was released in Europe.

In mid-2008, it was re-released for European audiences, and at the end of summer for Americans. Thus, the album was released several times during the year in three different parts of the world.

The project cannot be called sustained in the style of pop music. Especially considering the fact that Björn Ittling (the lead singer of the Swedish band Peter Bjornand John) and Lasse Morten, who were ardent supporters of indie rock, became its producers. In general, the style of the album can be characterized within the framework of this genre.

Subsequent releases by Lykke Li

Initially, it was not necessary to expect significant commercial success - it's all about the genres in which the singer worked. A lover of experiments and constant travel, laid down since childhood, Lykke did not want to adapt to the laws of European show business.

The style of her music cannot be described in one word. The music is most often based on indie rock, which is often combined with genres such as indie pop, dream pop, art pop and electro pop. Simply put, this is a combination of rock, electronic music and soul.

It is in this style that all subsequent albums of the singer are performed. Wounded Rhymes' second solo album was released three years after the first, in 2011. Three years later, the album I Never Learn was released. The third album (like the previous one) was released not only by LL Recording, but also by Atlantic Records.

By the way, of all the releases of the singer, this work has become the most noticeable in the United States. The record was produced by such cult personalities as Greg Kurstin and Bjorn Uttling (winners of numerous music awards, including the Grammy Award). The album received good reviews from critics and was quite warmly received by the audience.

So Sad So Sexy (as the fourth record is called) was released in June 2018, 10 years after Lycke's solo disc was released.
