The 1990s of the last century were, perhaps, one of the most active periods in the development of new revolutionary musical trends.
So, power metal was very popular, which was more melodic, complex and faster than classic metal. The Swedish group Sabaton contributed to the development of this direction.
Foundation and formation of the Sabaton team
1999 was the beginning of a fruitful creative path for the team. The group was created in the Swedish city of Falun. The formation of the band was the result of the collaboration of the death metal band Aeon with Joakim Broden and Oscar Montelius.
In the process of formation, the band succumbed to many transformations, and the musicians decided to work in one direction (heavy power metal).
Leave the name Sabaton, which in exact translation means one of the parts of the knight's uniform, namely the plate boot.
Backing vocalist and guitarist Per Sundström is considered the founder of Sabaton. This is a talented artist who mastered the bass guitar from an early age, was fond of music and devoted himself entirely to creativity.
Together with him, Richard Larson and Rikard Sunden stood at the origins of the group. But Larson left the team after several years of fruitful work.
Daniel Mellback took over in 2001. With such a constant five (Per Sundström, Rikard Sunden, Daniel Mellback, Oscar Montelius and Joakim Broden), the guys played together until 2012. The main vocalist all these years was P. Sundström.
Since 2012, there have been changes in the composition of the band - Chris Röland (guitarist) has joined the musicians; in 2013 - Hannes Van Dahl became a drummer; in 2016, Tommy Johansson appeared, who became the second guitarist in the band.
Musical achievements of the Sabaton group
In 2001, in the process of preparing hits for a new album, the band began cooperation with the famous Swedish producer Tommy Tägtgern.
The result of this interaction was the recording of the second part of the demo album Fist for Fight, which was released by the Italian label Underground Symphony.
A year later, the Sabaton group resumed work with the Abyss Studios music studio. Tagtgern suggested that the band create the first full Metalizer album, which was supposed to go on sale at the end of the year.
However, for reasons unknown to the media, the disc appeared on store shelves five years later. During the recording of the album, the band members spent many hours in rehearsals, preparing for the tour in support of it.
In 2004, without waiting for the release of the disc, the group took the initiative into their own hands. Without the help of a label at Abyss Studios, the group released the album Primo Victoria, which became the debut for Sabaton.
The name of the disc is very symbolic and means "first victory" in translation. It was this album that was a noticeable serious step in the career of musicians.
"Fans" of the group's work heard the Primo Victoria album in 2005. After his presentation, the artists received many invitations to perform abroad.
Until then, the band had limited themselves to performing within Sweden. The popularity of the band gradually increased, and wide prospects opened up before the musicians.
So, in 2006, the second album Attero Dominatus was released, which was delighted by heavy power metal fans. After recording the CD, the band embarked on their first major European tour.
These tours of the group were not very long, but successful. Returning to Sweden, the Sabaton group began their second tour of the country.
At the same time, the long-awaited album Metalizer was released, which did not include a single song on a military theme. The unique style and approach to performance made the group the headliners of several rock festivals.
A new stage in the creativity of the Sabaton group
In 2007, the Sabaton band resumed work with producer Tommy Tägtgern and his brother Peter.
This creative tandem recorded the single Cliffs of Gallipoli, it quickly took the leading positions in the Swedish charts and became an application for the preparation of the new Cliffs of Gallipoli disc.
The album was instantly sold out from the shelves of music stores and received exceptionally high marks, which made it one of the most successful in the history of the band.
Further development of the group did not stop. The Sabaton group toured a lot, recorded new hits, inspired by the feedback from fans. The guys constantly worked on improving the previously released tracks.
In 2010, the band pleased its "fans" with the new album Coat of Arms and the new sound of their most popular singles.
Carolus Rex was the group's seventh studio album and was recorded in the spring of 2012.
The most popular among the listeners were the tracks Night Witches, To Hell and Back and Soldier of 3 Armies, which were included in the album Heroes (2014), dedicated to the participants in military events.
In the future, the group continued to release new singles and videos for them, and also prepared for the release of a new collection.
In the spring of 2019, the Sabaton group announced the appearance of the next album, the recording of which began in November 2018. The compositions included in its composition deal with the events of the First World War, which shook the world and left a deep mark on history.
