The history of the Xandria group

Marco Heubaum formed Xandria in 1994 in Bielefeld, Germany. The band immediately began to develop its own unique sound on stage. They boldly combined elements of symphonic rock with powerful symphonic metal. They also enhanced their compositions with modern electronic components. Audiences were thrilled with this radically new and fresh sound, and the young band quickly attracted its first loyal audience.

However, after three years of successful work, the band suddenly disbanded. This was due to serious creative differences within the group. The members could not agree on a future musical style. Ultimately, only Marco Heubaum and the lead singer remained from the original lineup. A long period of silence and an active search for new members followed. Meanwhile, the project's leader continued to write music and believe in success.

In 1999, Marco Heubaum finally assembled a completely new lineup. He invited talented, like-minded members to realize his bold ideas. At the first meeting, the founder presented his new compositions to his bandmates. He also suggested performing previously written hits, including the well-known songs "Kill the Sun" and "Casablanca." Thus began a new chapter in Xandria's long history. The musicians enthusiastically began regular rehearsals and preparing material.

The band then began actively recording demo versions of their best tracks. The song "So You Disappear" became a key part of their early repertoire. Fans eagerly awaited the return of their favorite artists to the big stage. The members spent considerable time in the studio to achieve perfect quality. Meanwhile, interest in the band in Bielefeld continued to grow. The project steadily progressed toward recording its first full-length album. These events are now considered the beginning of the legendary journey of the renowned band.

From underground stars to masters of showmanship

In the early 2000s, Xandria began its journey to success. The musicians used a small studio to record their first songs. They then released their debut demos to audiences on various online resources. Underground fans quickly appreciated their high-quality music. Furthermore, the band gained popularity beyond Germany. They received numerous positive reviews from listeners in the United States. Thus, Xandria gained international recognition even before releasing an album.

Soon, the band began receiving frequent invitations to perform live. Successful online performances bore fruit. However, to fully develop, the band needed a strong partner. The musicians engaged in lengthy negotiations with representatives of various music companies. They then signed a contract with the renowned label Drakkar Records. Meanwhile, press interest in Xandria's work continued to grow. This collaboration opened up entirely new horizons for the artists.

In 2003, their first full-length studio album, Kill the Sun, was released. The record immediately attracted the attention of music critics and regular listeners. The disc then entered the official German album charts. This was a true triumph for the young band from Bielefeld. It marked a highly successful debut on the major professional stage. Meanwhile, the musicians began preparing for their first major tour. Thus, the band cemented their status as future stars of symphonic metal.

The band then began working on their next album. The success of their first release energized the members. However, they strove to make the sound even more complex and engaging. They spent long hours in the studio to achieve the perfect result. The band also began to utilize new recording technologies. Thus, Xandria finally transformed from underground stars into true professionals. The album "Kill the Sun" is now considered a classic in the band's history.

Concert activities of the Xandria group and communication with the audience

In the spring, Xandria embarked on a massive three-week concert tour across Germany. They shared the stage with Tanzwut. During this extensive tour, the musicians actively gained new fans. Furthermore, the artists maintained close contact with their audiences. This allowed the band to forge a very strong bond with their growing audience. The band's popularity then reached a whole new level.

Then came another important festival appearance for the musicians. The band presented their program at the renowned M'era Luna Festival. Afterward, another major concert tour began, spanning multiple cities. This time, Xandria toured with the ASP team. Interacting live with fans was a truly emotional experience. Meanwhile, performing in front of large audiences sparked a powerful wave of ideas. The musicians decided to quickly bring these ideas to life in their second album.

However, the beginning of 2004 brought unexpected and serious difficulties for the band. Bassist Roland Kruger was forced to leave Xandria permanently. This event became a true test for all the remaining members of the project. The band's leaders then began a long and difficult search for a suitable replacement. With great difficulty, Nils Middelhaufe was chosen for this important position. Furthermore, he was a completely new member of this well-established band. Therefore, the band had to spend a considerable amount of time adapting to his professional development.

Then, an interesting fact about the new member came to light. Lead singer Lisa Schaphaus had already met the bassist. This helped Nils Middelhaufe quickly integrate into the creative process. Meanwhile, Xandria continued actively preparing new music. The members held regular rehearsals to achieve the perfect sound in the studio. However, working on the second album required the utmost concentration. Thus, the band confidently overcame the temporary crisis and continued on its journey.

The second album of the group is again a success

In May, their second studio album, Ravenheart, was released. This record brought the band immense popularity among a wide audience. The album spent seven weeks in the prestigious Top 40 of the German charts. The band also filmed a striking music video for the title track. The video, styled like a short fantasy film, made it stand out from all the other music videos.

The next successful step in the band's career was a major international performance. They were invited to the renowned Busan International Rock Festival. Around thirty thousand spectators came to see this vibrant band perform. The audience then expressed complete delight at their powerful live performance. Meanwhile, the musicians continued to solidify their status on the global rock scene. Thus, the trip to South Korea became a significant achievement for the artists.

Xandria's latest success was a beautiful music video for the ballad "Eversleeping." Filming of this atmospheric video took place in a real ancient castle. In November of that year, a self-titled album featuring new tracks was released. In addition to three new songs, it featured established hits. Among them was one of the band's very first compositions, dating back to 1997. Listeners subsequently appreciated the updated sound of their tried-and-true material.

The members of Xandria felt tremendous support from their fans. Working on their visual style brought them many new offers from labels. However, the musicians remained true to their original creative vision. The band then began planning further tours to support the new release. Meanwhile, interest in their music videos on television continued to grow steadily. Thus, Ravenheart finally cemented the band's success in the music industry.

The Golden Era with the albums India and Salome

In December, after a long tour, Xandria returned to the studio. The musicians were charged with the powerful energy of their devoted fans. The band spent the first half of 2005 working on their third album, India. Then, at the end of August, this massive record was officially released. To this day, India remains an unrivaled creation in the band's history. Thus, the long hours of complex studio work bore well-deserved fruit.

The following year, 2007, marked work on Salome's fourth album, The Seventh Veil. The musicians had already selected a professional studio for the recording. However, the primary producer of this important record was Marco Heubaum himself. The band's leader often practiced such a responsible approach to creativity. The work was fully completed by the end of May of that year. Then, on May 25th, the new album was officially released worldwide.

In the fall, Xandria embarked on another extensive tour. They performed in numerous German cities and presented their program internationally. They toured the UK, Sweden, and the hospitable Netherlands. However, in 2008, the lineup underwent serious and unfortunate changes. Lead singer Lisa Middelhaufe left the band after eight years of fruitful collaboration. The members later announced they were still on friendly terms with their former colleague.

The Age of Change and the Current Stage of Xandria

At the beginning of summer, the band's largest best-of compilation, Now & Forever, was released. This edition included twenty of the band's most popular songs. Thus, the album marked the logical conclusion of a long collaboration with Lisa Middelhaufe. Xandria then featured three different female vocalists, including the talented Kerstin Bischof and Manuela Kraller. Dianne van Giersbergen from the Netherlands also left a significant mark.

The band's discography expanded to include three new albums in a similar style. In 2012, the musicians released the powerful album Neverworld's End. This was followed by the successful release of Sacrificium in 2014. However, the most ambitious project of that period was Theater of Dimensions. This album was officially released in early 2017. Meanwhile, the band continued to tour actively and perform at major festivals.

Xandria then entered a period of quiet and a search for new inspiration. The band's lineup underwent significant changes once again. Ambre Vourvahis is now the band's new official vocalist. With her arrival, the music acquired a fresh sound and modern energy. In 2023, the band released its ninth studio album, The Wonders Still Awaiting, thus successfully returning to the global stage with new material.
