You Me At Six ("Yu Mi Et Six"): Biography of the group

You Me At Six is ​​a British musical group that performs compositions primarily in such genres as rock, alternative rock, pop punk and post-hardcore (at the beginning of a career). Their music has been featured on the soundtracks for Kong: Skull Island, FIFA 14, the TV shows World of Dance and Made in Chelsea. The musicians do not deny that their work was greatly influenced by the American rock bands Blink-182, Incubus and Thrice.

History of You Me At Six

The story of You Me At Six is ​​a dream come true for any musical group. All participants come from the UK, Surrey. The band's first line-up was as follows: vocalist Josh Franceschi, guitarists Max Heiler and Chris Miller, bassist Matt Barnes and drummer Joe Philips. For all the time there was only one change in the composition - in 2007, Joe Philips was replaced by Dan Flint.

The guys started their activity in 2004 and continue to this day. Like many others, You Me At Six started out as a "garage band". The musicians rehearsed in garages and performed in local small clubs and pubs. This went on for three years, until at the beginning of 2007 they performed together with the American groups Saosin and Paramore, after which the media noticed. 

The beginning of the musical path of You Me At Six

The band's debut took place in 2006 with the recording of the mini-album We Know What It Means to Be Alone, which included three tracks. In early 2007, four more songs were released: The Rumou, Gossip, Noises and This Turbulence is Beautiful.

In July 2007, the musicians performed with Tonight Is Goodbye on their summer tour with Death Can Dance. Later that month, the group was featured in a new music section in Kerrang! magazine. This was followed by opening acts for Fightstar and Elliot Minor.

After returning from tours, the band was invited to headline a Halloween show in England. Famous performers took part in it: Consort With Romeo and We Have a Get Away. 

In October, the debut single Save it for the Bedroom was released. Then You Me At Six went on their first tour, playing six shows across the country. And later that year, the second track, You've Made Your Bed, was released.

The group was nominated for the title of Best New Band 2007 ("Best New Band 2007"). In November, You Me At Six signed a record deal with Slam Dunk Records. He produced and "promoted" the band's debut album.

The debut album

2008 began with a performance on The Audition tour of the Americans. On September 29, 2008, the band released the single Jealous Minds Think Alike, playing a show at the Banquet Records store in Kingston. A week later, on October 6, 2008, the band released their first album, Take Off Your Colors. And although it was released only in England, a week later it took 25th position in the UK music chart. The album was also later released in the US.

The release of the debut album was accompanied primarily by a promotional tour, which began on October 15th. The musicians performed at London's Astoria and several HMV stores around the country. The most popular tracks on the album were Save it for the Bedroom, Finders Keepers and Kiss and Tell. A self-made video was recorded for the song Save it for the Bedroom. It has over 2 million views on YouTube. And the tracks Finders Keepers and Kiss and Tell took 33rd and 42nd positions in the official music hit parade in Britain. 

On October 10, the musicians announced that they would perform with Fall Out Boy on their UK tour. Also, in the same year, the rock magazine Kerrang! nominated the group for the title of Best British Band 2008 ("Best British Band 2008").

In March 2009, You Me At Six headlined the 777 tour. The musicians gave 7 concerts in Bristol, Birmingham, Manchester, Glasgow, Newcastle, Portsmouth and London. On May 24, the band headlined the Slam Dunk Festival at the University of Leeds.

Second album release

On November 11, 2009, lead singer Josh Franceschi announced on Twitter that the second album was ready. As well as plans to release it in early 2010.

The release of the second album Hold Me Down took place in January 2010. In Britain, he took 5th position in the charts of music albums. The Underdog single was later made available for free streaming on MySpace.

Third album You Me At Six

In 2011 You Me At Six moved to Los Angeles. This was done in order to work on the third Sinners Never Sleep album. However, the guys managed to record the track Rescue Me with the American alternative hip-hop group Chiddy Bang.

The release of the third album took place in October 2011 and took 3rd position in the UK album charts. Moreover, it was recognized as "gold". The release of the album was accompanied by a national tour. It is noteworthy that there was a sold-out for the final performance at the Wembley Arena. The performance was recorded and released as a live CD/DVD in 2013.

Moreover, the band recorded a new song, The Swarm, dedicated to the opening of a new attraction in the English theme park Thorpe Park.

Release of the fourth album

In 2013, the musicians began work on their fourth studio album. Therefore, already at the beginning of 2014, the Cavalier Youth album was released. He immediately took 1st position in the British charts of music albums.

Decade of the collective and subsequent albums

Time passed quickly. And now You Me At Six is ​​celebrating its first major anniversary. Of course, 10 years were marked by success and it was necessary to continue in the same spirit. The group decided to work in a new direction. For this, a new producer was invited to cooperate. The result of painstaking work was the release of the new album Night People, a feature of which was the use of hip-hop elements. Moreover, the group almost immediately released the track "3AM", which became a teaser for the sixth album. It received the laconic name "VI" and was released in October 2018.

You Me At Six now

Today You Me At Six are successful musicians. They gained fame in European countries, and small clubs were replaced by the stages of the most popular music festivals. The band is expected in Germany, France, Spain, and their debut album was recently re-released. The songs have received over 12 million streams on MySpace. And they are also rotated on BBC Radio 1 and Radio 2 stations.

Now the musicians are making plans for the future and have already announced the opening of ticket sales for the next concert tour. 

Interesting Facts

The group has been nominated three times for Kerrang! Awards in the category "Best British Group". However, all three times the winners were Bullet for My Valentine. But in the end, they got the coveted title in 2011.
